Principal's Address

Hello to all Moonie Families and Community,

Term 3 – Week 2

Welcome back to school. A busy first week with Athletics Carnival and a celebration of our Preps’ – 100 days at school!

Athletics Carnival

In true Athletics Carnival tradition, the rain came the night before but not enough to delay the start. We welcomed The Gums and had a great day. Everyone participated and put in their best-efforts. Congratulations to Charlotte P, Charlotte H, Isla, Justin and Max who all broke Moonie State School records.

This coming Thursday is the Small Schools Athletics Carnival at Meandarra. We will continue to practice this week including an after-school session on Wednesday for any families who would like to join in. Activity consent forms to attend Small School Athletics will be sent via QParents on Tuesday.  Included with the newsletter is a form required for your child/ren to participate in discus.  Can you please return this form to school tomorrow or give to Mrs Jones at the carnival.  If this form is not completed, your student will not be able to compete in the discus component of the carnival.

100 Days Celebration

On Monday we celebrated the Preps 100th day at school. The shone bright all day.

When the Preps were asked what they liked best about Prep:

Isla – We can do fun stuff like playing doctors and vets

Max – I like writing

Sam – I like writing about motorbikes

Freddie – Doing sports – long jump

Curriculum

This term in English the whole school is focusing on their Persuasive Writing. Years 3-6 are busy persuading each other on the best holiday destinations using the OREO structure - Opinion, Reason, Example and restating their Opinion.

Math – The core focus this term will be Measurement and Fractions and continuing to build on Number knowledge and understanding.

Eisteddfod

Everyone has been busily practicing their poems, and it was great to have Mrs Bogle at school last week helping students with their performance. She will continue to support the students until the Eisteddfod in Week 5.

The school practice for Eisteddfod will be held on Friday 1st August at the Sports Club. Students will walk to the Sports Club at 2:30 for afternoon tea with a 3pm start of all performances.

Thank you to Mrs Burke who has worked hard to organise all the poems and practice times for students. She will also accompany the students to the Eisteddfod in Goondiwindi on Monday, 4th August.

Wonders of Science

Good luck to Caleb, Lincoln, Annie, Harry and Justin who are attending their first Wonders of Science. They have worked hard to create their presentation about Adaptations of Bird Beaks.

STEM Day @ Hannaford

We have an excursion next month being held at the Hannaford State School for STEM. Enclosed with your newsletter is a pre-order tuckshop form.  Can you please complete this form as soon as possible and return to Jodie in the Office.  The excursion form will follow closer to the date.

Bus

Last week I spoke with students about behaviour on buses to and from school. We reminded students of the importance of following instructions given and ensuring they are following all safety expectations while travelling.

Warm regards,

Anna Jones
