Science

Last day of a very busy term and the Oodies look so cosy and students are very very happy!

As a focus for the science department this semester, and in line with the new syllabus, students have had an assessment on persuasive writing. They are encouraged to explain the science and present the data for a well informed opinion.  This was a learning experience and we expect their skills and understanding to improve as they have more practice. This is allowing them to make well informed decisions and challenge the false news that is presented by social media at times. Because of this assessment and maintaining consistency, some grades were lower than expected but with hard work and more practice, we are hoping that grades can be improved next semester.

Year 9 students are coming to the end of the disease unit and we are now looking at how the Health Department develops community education programs to inform the community of the best lifestyle choices so as to improve generational health outcomes.

Year 8 students will dive into the body systems next term and we learn in detail, how their body works without being told what to do.  It’s amazing how they work together to keep us healthy and it is our responsibility to treat our bodies with respect by exercising, stretching, eating nutritious food and staying peaceful.

Year 7 students will be doing biology next term, learning how to group the millions of organisms that we share the Earth with. They will also look at cells and learn how the cell works hard to build more cells as we grow and how they make good use of the food we eat.

Year 10 students are studying Chemistry and should realise by now that Year 10 is an important year as they make decisions about their study patterns for their senior years and indeed, their intended careers.

Chemistry is a fundamental science and is in all other areas of scientific investigation.

The senior students will be working hard this break as they revise and practice questions in preparations for major examinations in Term 3.  We wish them all the best.

Everyone is looking forward to a well deserved rest and rejuvenation. It’s a lovely to spend quality personal time with the special people in our lives.

God bless, take care and we look forward to seeing you in Term 3
