Year Three/Four News

Welcome back to Term 3! All students have settled back into their classroom routines after the school holidays.

In Reading we have been learning how to improve our fluency by practising pausing, phrasing and stressing. These skills support us to read smoothly. Have your child read aloud to you so that they can continue practising at home.

In Writing, we have been exploring using dialogue to make our writing more engaging, in preparation for our short stories that we are going to write for our upcoming Writers Festival. This year’s Writers Festival has been inspired by Journey by Aaron Becker and students will be writing a short story whereby a character goes on a journey. Below is the link for Aaron Becker’s Journey for you to listen to with your child.

In Maths, we have been learning about multiplication and different strategies to solve multiplication problems and learning our multiplication facts. While engaging in different games and activities, students have been able to build their confidence using multiplication strategies, including arrays, groups of, repeated addition and doubling.

In Science, we have begun our learning on how night and day occurs.  Students are very curious about the topic and have been asking questions and forming their own ideas about how night and day occurs.
