In the Kitchen

We were very busy using fresh produce from the garden to make delicious dishes to try when we get together at the end of each session.

We created beetroot and chocolate muffins for our visitors to Open Day afternoon to try and guess the secret ingredient from our garden. A few people correctly guessed beetroot! They were delicious.

We also used some more tromboncinos in some pumpkin and sweet potato soup, with some scrumptious wheat tortillas to enjoy alongside the soup. Cutting onions are always a challenge though... special glasses are helpful for stopping the tears!

This week we used fresh produce from the garden to create a risotto of the imagination... snow peas and carrots (see photos for the weirdly shaped carrots!!!) We also used our the whole beetroot for a warm beetroot and herb salad, it was sweet and delicious! To round out our meal, we made a self-saucing lemon pudding...yum!

In the Garden

The last two weeks have been very busy in the garden getting some of the beds ready to replant, thinning out the carrots and beets that are very crowded, cutting back the pumpkin and tromboncino plants that have finished growing and of course more weeding and raking up. It was lovely to have so many people come and visit the garden on Open Night and have a look at all our fast growing vegies and herbs and name some of the plants. We had some very odd shaped carrots growing in the garden but they tasted great in the risotto along with all the other vegies and herbs that we could harvest from the garden . Next week will be a big week of planting now the beds are ready.
