SSV State Swimming Championships
On Friday 19 April, 6 students represented Eltham High at the SSV State Swimming Championships. We had swimmers in nine individual events and one relay team. Eltham finished 19th overall which is a great effort considering we only had 6 students competing.
Conor Hayes (Year 12, Everard House) was competing at his last SSV State Swimming Championships, representing Eltham High School in 3 individual events and a relay. Conor has had a very successful 6 years at the different stages of competition and this year has been no different. On Friday, he finished with a GOLD in the 400m Freestyle, SILVER in 100m Freestyle and BRONZE in the 200m Freestyle.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Conor for his contribution to EHS swimming over the past six years. His pursuit for excellence in this sport is highly regarded and he has been a role model to our younger swimmers coming through.
Sam Hartley (Year 9, Everard House) has been a regular member of our Swim Team since he arrived at the school in Year 7. He has competed strongly at both District and NMR levels. In this year’s State Finals Sam got SILVER in the 200m Freestyle and 5th in the 4 x 50m Freestyle relay.
Ben Van Dijk (Year 8, Skipper House) competed at his second State Swimming Finals at the Secondary School level. Despite injury this year he was able to win his way through to Friday’s State Finals. He finished 6th in the 50m Butterfly. I’m sure we will see plenty more of Ben at this level in the future.
Matthew Brophy (Year 11, Pakana House) is another student who has been a regular member of the EHS swim team throughout his time at Eltham. Friday was a busy day for Matt, competing in 4 individual events and a relay. He swam strongly in all events finishing 5th in the 50m Breaststroke, 6th in the 200m IM, 7th in the 100m Freestyle, 8th in the 50m Freestyle and 5th in the 4 x 50m Freestyle relay.
Jevon Dalton (Year 10, Everard House) and Archie Bonga (Year 9, Skipper House) competed strongly in the 4 x 50m Freestyle relay team along with Sam and Matt. The team finished 5th on the day which is a fantastic effort at the state finals.
Congratulations to all the boys on their performances the past few months. You have all represented Eltham High with a high level of excellence and sportsmanship. We are very proud of your achievements.
