Working Bee

EHS Working Bee

Our latest Working Bee was held on Sunday 5 May. It started out with a chill in the air but warmed up nicely to a sunny autumn day.

Around 20 volunteers attended, including a number of students. It’s great to see students taking pride in their school, helping alongside parents and teachers to keep the grounds looking tidy, and also honing their cooking skills on the BBQ.

After a lengthy planning period, we have finally had some garden beds and seating constructed at the front of the original school building. This area was planted out on the weekend. It provides some much needed seating for students and is also located outside the welfare room and will be used as sensory garden and quiet space.

As usual there was a lot of weeding, pruning, raking and tidying up of leaves around the grounds and morning tea and a BBQ lunch were enjoyed by all.

The next Working Bee is scheduled for June 16. At this Working Bee we are planning to rejuvenate and re-plant the garden beds located on the Ely Street side of the school and re-plant the herb garden outside the Canteen.

We'd really encourage families to attend at least one Working Bee per year if possible.  The working bees are organised by the grounds committee, a group of volunteers and staff, who for many years have worked hard to create a vibrant and engaging outdoor environment for the school community.  However, we can only keep up the good work and maintain the school aesthetic with the help of families at the working bees. They are a great way to meet new families, get to know some of the school staff and feel pride in helping to support the school community.

We are also always looking for new grounds committee members. We’d particularly like to hear from anyone in the school community with experience or interest in helping us develop a strategic plan for the school grounds to guide our activities over the coming years.

If you'd like to get more involved with the school community and help with planning the school outdoor areas and gardens, please contact contact Anna Panas via email:  anna.panas@education.vic.gov.au

Meetings are held on a Thursday evening at the school prior to each Working Bee. Please see below a list of Committee Meeting and Working Bee dates.
