Music Notes

The Huntingtower Music Centre is excited to be able to introduce a new ensemble to the already plentiful array of groups. This group, known as the ‘Prelude Concert Band’ aims to provide the foundations of ensemble experience for beginning woodwind, brass and percussion players. It matters little if the student has only learnt a few notes, as the music caters for this level, and there are a range of strategies available for everyone to join in at their current level.

It is expected that students in Years 4 – 7 who have recently commenced learning a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument at Huntingtower with one of our amazing music teachers will participate in this ensemble. Students who learn a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument from a teacher outside of Huntingtower are also welcome and encouraged to join the Prelude Concert Band. This group provides a pathway to the Intermezzo Concert Band (which rehearses Tuesday mornings) for when the student is of a suitable standard.

The fun begins next Monday 29 April during Period 6 (3:20pm – 4:10pm) in the Orchestral Room within the Music Centre. This will be our regular rehearsal time throughout the year. We hope to be ready to perform an item at the upcoming Winter Instrumental Concert on Wednesday 19 June, and there will be other fun performances during Terms 3 and 4.

Other interested students are welcome to commence private music tuition at any time of the year, and the Music Centre is always willing to provide advice and information about the process and procedures for becoming involved. After a few lessons, new students should be ready to also join the Prelude Concert Band.

Monash Youth Music Festival

Entries are now open for the next edition of the Monash Youth Music Festival. All music students are encouraged to enter themselves in an appropriate section to gain this excellent performance opportunity. The greatest amount of progress is usually made just prior to, and during, a performance! The competition is hosted by Huntingtower in early Term 3 on weekends and afternoons during the festival.
