Hands on Learning

With the school holidays a distant memory, the Hands-on Learning crew came back fully energised, throwing everything they had at the next phase of the Hub, including the kitchen sink. Literally!
The last piece of the puzzle is to install a kitchenette where we can prepare and clean up after meals. So far, we have fitted out our hub with booth seating, a work bench, lockers and plenty of storage both above and below. Once inside, one could be mistaken for being inside the Tardis.
With over two metres of stainless kitchen sink to work with the crew set about building a frame. This involved using problem solving and engineering skills as well as new skills working with a chisel and in one instance, a very large hammer.
We are fortunate the weather has cooled and allowed us the privilege of camp oven cooking. On the menu, roast beef and gravy rolls. The feeling of being on holidays came back to me again. We all ate heartily and with gusto, the flies never stood a chance.
With lunch settling nicely we finished off the frame and cleaned up. Even though we fought a few battles today, the sense of satisfaction that comes with hitting a goal, I feel, is just as nourishing as a roast roll. Now, for desert …

On Wednesday, first week back from holidays, we had Hands-on Learning. Brett started by explaining the rules and safety to us and what we were going to do for the day.
We made the legs for the kitchen sink so we could put a kitchen inside our shipping container. Then we stopped and had our lunch, it was roast gravy rolls. It was delicious. We started a fire and cooked the roast on the fire and also the gravy. We sat around the fire and had our fantastic lunch, then we finished. Peace out.
Anika thoughts on the day were,
On Wednesday was our first Hands-on Learning after the holidays. We all caught up and talked about safety and what we were doing, which was a kitchen for our little group house. It was a short day because we had school photos but we started with measuring and screwing stuff together.
For lunch was something that would make your tongue tingle. It was roast beef with gravy, but we also dipped the meat and bun into the gravy.
After lunch we finished our kitchen which turned out really well, then gave the work space a little clean up and that was our day for Hands-on Learning.
