Family Mass

At the 8.30am Mass on Sunday 2 June the Parish is celebrating Families. Families are invited to come and be a part of the celebrations and family members are invited to read, take up the offertory, and altar servers are encouraged to serve. Following Mass there will be a cup of tea. It would be appreciated if you could bring a plate to share. To help with the preparations, please contact the school if your family would like to have a special role at Mass as mentioned above. Thank you.

Year 6 Practice RE Test

This week on Wednesday 8 May, students in Year 6 sat the Year 6 Practice RE Test. The test consisted of 40 questions and is a part of their preparations for the annual Year 6 RE Test later this term. The test is used for diagnostic purposes to improve the delivery of the Religious Education  Curriculum as it gives us some insights into areas of strength and areas for improvement in our school.

The Ascension

This Sunday 12 May we celebrate The Ascension. On this day we remember Jesus’ ascension into Heaven.

Mothers’ Day

We also wish all of our Mums, Grandmothers and special Mother figures a very Happy Mothers’ Day.

Pentecost Sunday

On Sunday 19 May we celebrate Pentecost Sunday. On this day we remember Jesus sending His Holy Spirit to be with the disciples to help them continue to spread the Good News. Pentecost Sunday is often referred to as the birthday of the Church.

Laudato Si Week (Australia)

Sunday 19 May - Sunday 26 May is Laudato Si’ Week. The theme this year is Seeds of Hope. This year we will take some time to plant seeds to help brighten our environment and promote biodiversity in our school. We continue to celebrate our Laudato Si’ focus here at St Michael’s.

On the middle weekend Saturday 20 April Logan, Destiny and myself representing St Michael’s C2S (Called to Shine) Committee, presented at the Change Makers talk held in the Small Town Hall as a part of the Renewable Manilla Festival. We spoke about our Laudato Si focus and the student led work we are doing around sustainability and biodiversity. I would like to thank and congratulate Logan and Destiny for their enthusiasm and the respectful way they spoke about the initiatives we are working on at school. They represented our school with pride and are a credit to themselves and their families. Well done Logan and Destiny.

It was very inspiring to listen to the other keynote speakers Eliza Weekes Urban Native Gardens, Gavin Heywood: Founder of Serum Australis and local Regen Farmer and  Zoe Burke Local Regen Farmer.

Our thanks to Claire Rafferty and Lester McCormick for your organisation.

Our Lady Help of Christians

On Friday 24 May we celebrate Our Lady Help of Christians which is one of the official titles given to Mary. Our Lady Help of Christians is one of the two Patron Saints of Australia the other is St Mary of the Cross MacKillop.

Legends of the Light Shine

“A true ecological approach always becomes a social approach; it must integrate questions of justice in debates on the environment, so as to hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.” Pope Francis Laudato Si’ #49

Our Legends of the Light Shine focus for the next 2 weeks is “Stewardship”. Stewardship is an important part of what we do at St Michael’s. We recognise that we have been gifted with a beautiful world and have the responsibility to care for it. Our theme of stewardship is linked closely to Laudato Si’ Week.

Below is pictured Rosie with one of our friendly bearded dragons. We have a great love and curiosity for our resident lizards, who are always keeping a keen eye on us too.

C2S Committee Meeting

At this week’s meeting our C2S (Called To Shine) Committee, heard back from Logan and Destiny about their presentation at the Change Makers talk at the Renewable Manilla Festival. They gave good feedback on learning about the importance of natural holes in trees for homes for our native birds.
