Writers Festival

Year 4 - Miss Harper

On Wednesday 9th May Grade 4 students went to the exciting Writers Festival! The excursion featured four talented authors exposing the children to think creatively in their writing. The day began with Kate and Jol Temple, who discussed how to add humour to writing and effectively include evil masterminds and loveable rogues, as well as hearing from Anna Zobel who engaged students with intense setting experiences and how to build suspense.

The afternoon featured brilliant writer Idan Ben Barakwho who spoke of how clever we can be utilising science and our senses to inspire our fictional writing and thinking outside the box. Students finished the day with Jordan Gould and Richard Pritchard the writers of the Wylah series, where the engagement was phenomenal. Students created their own character for a future story, and learnt about the beauty of drawing on culture and experience to shape how we write.
