IDAHOBIT day

We came together to celebrate IDAHOBIT day today as a school community. Students participated in age-appropriate conversations regarding inclusion and diversity and demonstrated their support by wearing splashes of rainbow. There were optional lunchtime activities and an acknowledgement of the day at assembly.

Thank you to all the families who actively demonstrate their support of our LGBTQIA+ community. We believe it is important to teach our students about acceptance, respect and inclusivity. By doing so, we are not only creating a safe and supportive school environment now, but also preparing students to thrive in a global society.

Play and explore sessions

Our Play and Explore sessions are scheduled throughout the year for families with pre-school aged children, hosted by our student wellbeing leaders. This week they taught children how to play a range of cooperative group games in our new multi-sports area. Each session is held in a different location with a variety of activities, and provides children and families the opportunity to connect in a relaxed and informal environment.

Inform & Empower - Online Safety Webinar

Last night we had our parent/carer online safety webinar hosted by founder and educator, Martin McGauran and psychologist, Carley McGauran. One of their key messages was how we can be mentor parents and have those early important, age-appropriate conversations with our kids. Here’s 3 things Carley advised to tell your child today:

  1. I can help you sort any problem.
  2. I will love you and support you no matter what has happened.
  3. I will not take your device off you if you come to me with a problem.

If you didn’t get the chance to tune in, please find more info and resources below.

Stay well this winter

We have seen an influx in student and staff absence due to illness this term.

Symptoms of influenza (flu) can hit very quickly and may last several weeks. Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and others from getting the flu.

Keeping our school community well

Parents, carers and students are encouraged to practice prevention measures, including:

· washing and sanitising hands regularly

· avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands

· covering nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing

 · staying home if unwell and consulting a general practitioner (GP) or Nurse-on-call as required

· staying up to date with flu and COVID-19 vaccinations.

Flu vaccinations

Flu vaccinations can be booked through GPs and pharmacies, many of which can also provide COVID-19 vaccinations. Flu vaccination is recommended for everyone aged 6 months and over.

Some people are more at risk of complications from flu and are eligible for free vaccination as part of the National Immunisation Program.

COVID-19 booster

The 2024 COVID-19 booster dose is available for everyone aged 18 and above.

Getting your booster dose remains the best way to prevent severe illness or hospitalisation, especially in people aged over 65 and those at higher risk of severe illness.

Children aged between 5 and 17 years who are at risk of severe illness can also receive a 2024 booster dose.

You can get your next dose at your local pharmacy or GP. To find one near you, refer to the vaccine clinic finder.
