The Medieval Incursion

At the start of Term 2 our amazing Year 8 students had an opportunity to participate in an incursion about Medieval Europe presented by History Up Close. We gathered in Sharman Hall and had a chance to handle and dress up in the types of outfits worn during the Medieval age. Some students got to dress up as lords, knights and even monarchs while others got to experience life as a lowly peasant farmers. Most fun, of course, was the fortunate opportunity some students had to don some medieval armour, grab a sword and shield – foam of course! – and duel it out in a battle against their peers. This incursion has been a valuable hands-on experience as part of their study of life in Medieval Europe.

"There is one thing I need to say before I start this review. I dressed up as a medieval monk. I mean it was knee deep in the devil’s Australian summer, a hell of a 32 degree day, and I was wearing multiple layers of heavy, thick wool, tied at the waist with a rope that felt infinitely heavy, and I had the time of my LIFE. The incursion was thick with history, little nuggets of hilarious comedy, and lots of seeing people looking ridiculous in mediaeval dress. I myself am a huge history enthusiast, but even the people who fell asleep during the best history class with the best teacher and canva-made slides, were practically jumping up and down in their seats. All around, a great time!"
