Preps 2024
On Wednesday 7 February, our Prep students began their EHPS learning journey!
We had such an exciting morning with lots of smiles, photos, games, songs, and fun! Our Preps have settled so well into school, learning their new routines, getting to know their teachers and making new friends. They are now doing full days at school and have started learning in specialist classes. Over the last week, our Preps have been introduced to lots of new letter sounds, have been practising reading poems, exploring the days of the week and recognising numbers. What a fun start!
To celebrate such a special milestone, each of our students were presented with a special bag from the Victorian Government filled with picture books, puzzles and interesting activities to explore at home with their families.
Please join us in welcoming all of our new families to Essex Heights!

Prep Bags
Each Prep student attending a Victorian government school will receive a Prep bag to celebrate this milestone in their education journey.
The bags are filled with engaging learning items and information for parents and carers to help families have a great start to the year.
This year’s theme, ‘Explore. Learn. Enjoy.’ aims to generate excitement about all the wonderful discoveries our youngest students will make as they start primary school.
What’s in the Prep bag?
To help build literacy skills and encourage a life-long love of reading from an early age, Prep students will receive five specially chosen books. The books are:
- Ellie’s Dragon by Bob Graham
- The Sloth Who Came to Stay by Margaret Wild and Vivienne To
- Saving Seal by Diane Jackson Hill and Craig Smith
- When the Waterhole Dries Up byKaye Baillie and Max Hamilton
- Our Dreaming by Kirli Saunders and Dub Leffler
The bag also contained lots of other goodies including learning resources, sport activities, and health and wellbeing information and resources.
