Let’s Step Up to Clean Up

Since 1989 when Ian Kiernan had the simple idea to clean up Sydney Harbour, Clean Up Australia Day participants have collected more than 200,000 tonnes of rubbish – that's 4.7 million household wheelie bins.

Sign up to the Clean Up Australia Day event in your local council. The event is celebrated on the first weekend of March every year. Each year, up to 130,000 tonnes of plastic finds its way into our waterways and oceans. Clean Up Australia Day is an opportunity to come together, roll our sleeves up and tidy up the beautiful open spaces we have and treasure.
