Welcome to 2024!

by Helen Freeman

Welcome back to you all for the 2024 year. I hope you have enjoyed some well-earned down time with family and friends over the summer break.

Special welcome to all the families who have joined our school community for the first time. I am delighted to report that we have all enjoyed an exceptionally smooth start to the new school year.

It was wonderful to see the students walking back through the gates on Tuesday. All year levels have settled in well including our new Foundation students, who never cease to amaze me with their adaptability and readiness as they begin school for the first time.

New Staff Members

We have some new staff who have started with us this year too. I’d like to welcome Miss Kate Glew who will be teaching 1G, Mr James Wang who will be teaching 3W, Mrs Tait who will be teaching 2T, Mrs Mel James who will be teaching 1S on Thursdays and Mrs Wen Gao who is joining our Student Support team. They too have settled in and are looking forward to a fabulous year at Syndal South.

Building Works

It is exciting to see the building project well under way. The bricklayers are working hard and there is a lot of work being completed internally now the roof has been completed.

COVID-19

Unfortunately, at present there is an increase in community transmission of COVID-19 in Victoria.

You can help us keep our school as safe as possible by taking 2 important steps:

  1. Ensure your COVID-19 vaccinations are up to date.
  2. If your child shows symptoms of COVID-19, please ensure they stay at home and get tested. The easiest way to test is to use a rapid antigen test (RAT). We have RAT’s available at our school for collection from the OFFICE. Free RAT’S are also available from the local council. If your child has symptoms but tests negative, please ensure they stay at home until they no longer have symptoms. If the RAT result is positive, please ensure they stay at home for at least 5 days and until there are no symptoms.

Finally, please keep Friday 23rd February free from 5.00 pm to 7.00 pm as we will be holding our annual ’Welcome Picnic’. There will be more information about this special event distributed shortly.

Have a great fortnight.

Helen
