A NEW "FURRY FRIEND" AT ST NICHOLAS

Today we shared some very exciting news with our students and announced that we have registered with an organization called Dogs Connect and will soon welcome a school wellbeing dog on board. Dogs Connect are a highly reputable organisation who have supported over 350 schools across Australia to successfully integrate a dog into daily school life. Our school wellbeing dog’s name is Norman and he is a beautiful 8 month old cavoodle. Through this whole-school wellbeing program, we know he will become a much loved and important member of our community.

The Dogs Connect program will support us in implementing this very gradually, thoroughly and considerately, all whilst adhering to very high standards. Currently a core group of staff  (including Norman’s owner, Shelly O’Sullivan) are undergoing intensive training. These staff will be preparing and educating our staff, students and families over a number of weeks before Norman begins coming to school. At this stage we encourage anyone who would like to know more about this program to take a look at the following website : Dogs Connect

We will be sharing further information, videos and updates with our school community so you can learn more about the process, including the wonderful evidence-based impacts we expect to see. We would also like to assure the community that this program will not involve anyone who does not wish to be involved. We know this work will have a positive impact on our entire school community. Connections with our wellbeing dog Norman, will be offered on a variety of levels and in a number of ways.

We look forward to providing you with regular information and updates on this truly exciting new venture for our school.

Kind regards,

Norman’s core group of staff

Shelly O’Sullivan, Amanda Doyle, John Clery, Sophie Tobler, Sophie Maher, Angela Schumann and Paula Carmody

STUDENT GARDEN AREA UPDATE

Last year a group of enthusiastic volunteers (known as the 'garden gang') worked tirelessly during their lunch breaks......weeding, planting, and watering our new garden beds. As a result of their hard work, it was fabulous to arrive back at school to an abundance of colour and blossoms. Our gorgeous fairy garden continues to delight and surprise......a glistening blue fairy has even made a new home high in a tree. And our mini picnic tables have had a refresh; the inbuilt tubs now contain fresh sand and a fun, new selection of 'tiny toys' to play with.

COVID INFORMATION

At the end of 2022, National Cabinet announced that people who test positive to COVID-19 do not need to isolate. In line with this announcement, schools will continue to follow guidance issued by NSW Health to support the safety and wellbeing of our school communities.

Staff and Students with COVID-19 Symptoms

If a student or staff member is unwell and has any symptoms they should always test for COVID-19 and not attend school until they are symptom free.

Positive COVID-19 Cases

If a student or staff member receives a positive result with a RAT or PCR test they should:

  1. Record the positive result through the Services NSW website or App.
  2. Notify school of positive results as soon as possible.
