Year 8 & 9

Assistant Principal's Report

Welcome back to families and students and we look forward to another productive and successful year at school. It has been a great start to the year with lots of smiling faces and happy chatter with everyone catching up on the happenings over the summer break. It’s going to be a quick term and there is lots to look forward too with the upcoming Swimming Carnival (Friday 16th), a variety of activities and excursions, NAPLAN, a long weekend and then finishing the term with Parent Teacher Student conferences on 26th March.

There are many leadership opportunities for middle years students at the moment with the positions of Class Captain, Student Representative Council (SRC) and House Cptains all up for grabs. Students have been spoken to about the processes for this by their year level leaders and are strongly encouraged to ‘have a go’ if they are interested.

There will be many opportunities for students beyond the classroom this year. We have a wide range of activities they can participate in and it is something as a school we are really proud of because we know students need more than a curriculum based education to be able to thrive in our modern world. Some of these activities include:

  • Clubs at both break times every day (Pop Asia, Science, Volleyball, Chinloe, Anime, Inclusion, Guitar, Interact, Music, Yearbook, Chess, Media, Indoor soccer, Computer, Rainbow group, Board games, Dodgeball, AUSLAN, Art, Languages, Financial literacy and Metal)
  • After school Homework club every Wednesday
  • Variety of after school sports that differ from term to term (tennis, swimming, volleyball and more)
  • After school cooking (last year we had African cooking).

Finally I would just like to encourage you to make contact with your child’s tutor teacher should you have any questions, concerns or feedback. All teachers (and school staff) are contactable via email on Compass, and should you want to speak to a staff member you can directly ring the school.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 8

My name is Allan Nilsen. I am the year 8 leader for 2024. This will be my 3rd year at Wyndham Central College as the Year 8 Year Level Leader. I look forwarding to supporting the year 8's this year in all that they can achieve.

We have had a cracker of a start with our first day being devoted to setting up for success. Students worked on getting organised for the whole year setting up their binders, lockers and classrooms in the La Trobe building.

It has been a pleasure and privilege to see the year 8 cohort return to school. We have a great tutor team this year and our tutor teachers include:

8A Smitha Thomas            8B Steven Stellini             8C, Alex De-leon            8D Troy West

8E Rachel Lieu                    8F Janine Smith                8G Showji Ito                  8H Aleia Beecher 8J Dillon Croce                    8K Connor McKenzie & Mia Bruce.

Grace Hawke is the Year 8 Coordinator and did a fantastic job in this role last year. I would like to thank her for her support as well as Sharon Hamilton, the year 7 & 8 Education Support Assistant who knows and cares deeply for our students.

Our swimming carnival is on the 16th of February and hopefully it is a nice sunny day.  If you are not sure your child has returned their permission slip and or medical slips can you please ask them to see Sharon Hamilton in the Year 7 Federation building.

Break time clubs will be up and running in the next four weeks. This is great opportunity to pursue interests such as choir, guitar, chess, science, Asia- pop, and get to know other students with similar interests.

Our SRC (Student representative council), Class captains and House Captains expression of interest will go out next week. We look forward to supporting and mentoring students who wish to represent their fellow learners.

Our students are looking very smart in their Wyndham Central College uniforms. If for some reason you are unable to send you child to school in full uniform, could you please provide a note in their planner. Our student services team are able to support all children to be in full uniform and build the sense of pride and connectedness.

We value your contributions in this special and important part of your child's life so if you have any questions or suggestions about how to best support your child please don’t hesitate to contact their tutor teacher, the school or myself.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 9

What a fantastic start!

Over our first two weeks we have set ourselves up for success. It is great to see everyone using their binders and coming into school on time and ready to learn.

Our assemblies have been filled full of celebrations and community building. Our first student of the week for the year was Eh Soe Soe for his excellent work ethic, focus and dedication.

We are in the process of determining our student leadership groups through  Class Captains, SRC and House Captains. They will be announced in the coming weeks. Many students have already made fantastic contributions and intentions in the applications for those positions.

Term One is set to be a jam packed. We have our swimming sports next Friday! NAPLAN is just around the corner in week seven, and then we round out the term with Parent Student Conferences.

Our Year 9's have started the year superbly.
