Principal Message

Term 1 - Week 2 - Friday 9th February

Introducing our two New Assistant Principals

From Kavita Parmar…

What a wonderful start to the year at Mitcham PS and a big thank you to all the students, parents, carers, community and teachers for welcoming me so warmly.

I am incredibly excited to be part of the Mitcham community and look forward to working with you all to support the students at the school to be thinkers, learners and leaders.

I have a real passion for education, wellbeing and student engagement and pride myself in working in collaboration with you all to improve student growth and outcomes.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me should you need any support, I’m always happy to help.

From Michelle Anderson…

It has been wonderful to see all our MPS students start the new year in such a positive way! I loved seeing the Preps, and other new Mitcham students, stand up in assembly today to excitedly wave to their new school friends, followed by the 5/6 students receiving their Leadership badges. Everyone has settled into school life so well.

For those of you who don’t already know me, I started my journey at Mitcham last year teaching in Grade 5/6 and consider myself very fortunate to have been welcomed into the fabulous Mitcham community. This year, I have moved into an Assistant Principal role, working alongside Erin and Kavita, with a particular focus on Curriculum.

I look forward to meeting many more families on the gate in the afternoon and having a chat! Or feel free to email or call with any queries or concerns.

From the Principal’s Desk

I hope this message finds you well after our first full week back at school for 2024. It was truly heartwarming to witness so many parents joining us for our first assembly of the year. Your presence truly makes a difference in our school community, and we are grateful for your continued support.

Open Classrooms and Parent Information Afternoon

I would like to remind all families about the upcoming Open Classrooms event next Monday afternoon from 2:45 pm. This will be a fantastic opportunity for you to see firsthand the wonderful learning experiences your children are engaging in. Following the open classrooms, we will be hosting Parent Information Sessions in each grade level starting at 3:30. During this time, children will be supervised in the playground by our Specialist teachers until 4:00 pm.

Curriculum / Pupil Free Day - 23rd February

Additionally, please mark your calendars for our upcoming Curriculum/Pupil Free Day scheduled for Friday, February 23rd. On this day, our staff will be engaging in professional learning focused on restorative practices. Restorative practices are approaches that promote positive relationships, accountability, and community building, fostering a safe and supportive learning environment for all.

Coming Soon…

Looking ahead, in the next fortnight we will be sharing with you information about NAPLAN and School Council elections, so please keep you eyes out for these notifications.

Chinese New Year - The Year of the Dragon

As we approach the Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations this weekend, I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge this joyous occasion. To all families who will be celebrating Chinese New Year, I extend my warmest wishes for a wonderful and prosperous celebration filled with joy, love, and happiness.

May this new year bring you and your loved ones abundant blessings, good fortune, and success in all your endeavours.

As always thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in nurturing our students' growth and success.

Have a lovely weekend.

Erin
