Students Need School Libraries and Teacher Librarians (TL)

The College Library and Teacher Librarian plays a crucial role in providing an extensive range of benefits as highlighted in the following points:

Teacher Librarians = Information Literacy and Skills Development

Young people are used to unrestricted access to information from the internet – in fact, they are wading through a virtual tsunami of information, misinformation, disinformation and straight out lies. Librarians play a crucial role in teaching information literacy skills. They help students critically evaluate sources, navigate information, and understand the ethical use of information, fostering a deeper understanding of the research process, and preparing them for greater success at tertiary level studies and in life in general.

The library aims to curate a diverse collection of books, e-books, and multimedia resources that support the NESA curriculum. These resources enhance students' understanding of various subjects and cultural competencies.

Technology Access

Library staff assist students to develop digital literacy skills and conduct online research. This is particularly important in an era where technology is integral to education and daily life.

Promote Literacy

Via various themed displays/activities and organising Reading Programs to develop literacy and encourage a love of reading, which contributes to improve ALL students’ academic development.

Support Curriculum

Teacher Librarians collaborate with educators to integrate library resources into the curriculum. This collaboration enhances the learning experience by providing supplementary resources and alternative learning formats.

Study Spaces

Libraries provide quiet and conducive environments for independent study, enabling students to focus on their academic work and develop self-directed learning skills.

Instill a love for Learning

By providing a variety of resources and fostering a positive learning environment, libraries play a role in shaping students into lifelong learners.

In summary, the Wyndham College Library and staff serve as a multifaceted educational space, supporting students in their academic pursuits at all levels, fostering information literacy, ensuring social justice, and promoting a holistic approach to learning in a safe environment.
