Chaplain's Message

THE GATE OF THE YEAR by Minnie Louise Haskins

And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year: "Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown".

And he replied: "Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God. That shall be to you better than light, and safer than a known way".

So I went forth, and finding the Hand of God, trod gladly into the night. And He led me towards the hills and the breaking of day in the lone East.

I love this poem with its wonderful images of safety in the darkness! God goes before us and rather than light the way, He urges us to be willing to move into the darkness knowing that he is there to take our hands and lead us to the hills with the rising of the sun beyond!

Look to the Rising Sun - emblazend on the quad wall of The Minumurra Hall; Chris Tudor’s reminder to the College the value of looking for the good, the positive,  beyond the inevitable valleys to where the sun will rise!

The opportunities abound this year – a new beginning like a new page, ready to receive our creativity, our courage, our vision for growth and development. May we have eyes to recognise the wonderful things ahead, ears to hear God’s loving voice of encouragement and the hands to fulfill His purposes in the lives of those around us!

May we take the words of the beautiful verse with us: -

Father bless us as we go, Jesus walk beside us, Holy spirit guide us.
