Congratulations to Maddie Carracher, who has been accepted into the University of Melbourne Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program.
The Saint Day of the fifth century Irish Saint, Brigid, for whom this College is named and whose work as an educator, peace-maker and "soul-friend" inspired the beginning of the Brigidine Tradition within the Roman Catholic Church, 1500 years ago, falls every year on the 1st of February.
This day almost always coincides with the start of the school year at St Brigid's College. It is a wonderful opportunity for members of our College community to draw together and reflect on new beginnings, our beginnings as a College in Horsham, and our much earlier beginnings in Ireland within the Catholic Church.
A group of our staff visited Mount Arapiles to watch the sunrise and celebrate the day. Sister Jacinta Rice, the only Brigidine nun still working and witnessing in Horsham, prepared a reflection and a prayer, which was read by Cathy van Dyk.
Later that day we celebrated, as a whole school, with an assembly, which we were very fortunate to have Sister Jacinta join us for.
