Learning in S37

Senior School Rahimi is sharing the learning taking place in their class…

Welcome to 2024!

Our Year 6 students started the year with the "Year 6 Student Conference."  This event was designed to emphasize the importance of leadership, goal setting, and being positive role models.  Through interactive workshops and engaging activities, students were encouraged to develop their self-confidence, resilience, and leadership skills.  The presence of our guest speaker, Mike Spears, added a valuable dimension to the conference, inspiring students with his real-world success stories and insights into overcoming obstacles.

The conference wasn't just about learning;  it also included plenty of fun and teamwork.  A standout moment was the friendly basketball match against the teachers, refereed by Mike Spears, which not only brought laughter and joy but also taught valuable lessons in sportsmanship and teamwork.  It is important to note that the teachers did win this match! The students also enjoyed a BBQ, offering a perfect opportunity for them to bond and share experiences, further cementing the sense of community among them.

A few students from S37 spoke about their highlights:

“My highlight was that all the activities were fun and made sure the students got to volunteer and have a say.  For example, the Reach program had many activities that let students talk about their emotions and their comfort zone.  I learnt a lot about my peers and learnt a lot about how others feel.”  Charlie

“I loved the BBQ, it was the best BBQ!  It was crispy and I was in heaven whilst eating it.  The best part of the conference was when Mike Spears presented his life.  He told us about exercise and that it is good.  Also he motivated us to do our best in school.”  Nethaka

“I loved Mike Spears presentation!  He spoke about his life and how he never gave up.”  Hudson

The conference has helped set a strong foundation for our Year 6 students, inspiring them to aim high and embrace their roles as leaders and role models.  As they progress through their final year of primary school, the experiences and lessons from the conference are sure to guide them, shaping them into confident, resilient individuals ready to take on the challenges ahead.

Here’s to a year filled with growth, learning, and success for our Year 6 students!
