ACTING PRINCIPAL REPORT
Dear BSC Community,
On Thursday we had our final whole school assembly for the year where we celebrated our students’ wonderful achievements and their hard work, dedication, and perseverance.
We also acknowledged our terrific ATAR results and we couldn’t be prouder of our Year 12 students. A special mention to Kohen Maruyama, our College Dux who achieved an incredible ATAR score of 99.8, and we also congratulate 29 of our Year 12 students who received scores above 90; Melissa Andreeva, Ethan Badcock, Andreas Christodulakis, Jenson Cremasco, Dane Foster, Hannah Fridman, Chenghao Gao, Junhyeong (Jullian) Kim, Scarlett Klose, Nicholas Konstandakos, Alexander Konstandakos, Thomas Lennon, Max Lynch, Kohen Maruyama, Kate Monsbourgh, Huy Nguyen, Elliana Percy, Eitan Raveh, Felix Seemann, Marlena Skoneczko, Erin Smith, Shivani Stegelman, Felix Stock, Chi Ho Sun, Iroise Timbal-Duclaux De Martin, Rakesh Viswanathan, Yuan Wang, Amy Wilson, Shai Zelcer.
We are also so proud our two students who received a perfect score of 50, Matt Ward (Product Design and Technology -Wood) and Anastasia Zaytseva (General Maths), this an outstanding achievement.
Brighton Secondary College 2023 VCE results place the school as:
- In the top 100 of all schools in the state
- In the top 20 of all government schools
- 14th non-select entry government school
We had 29 students (19% of the cohort) obtain 90+ ATARs and another 32 students (21% of the cohort) obtain an ATAR between 80 and 90 with over 52 % of our Year 12 students obtaining an ATAR above 70. An excellent result!
The 11.2% of VCE Study Scores of 40+ achieved by our students places us once again well above the state mean and as one of the top schools in the state.
Our median study score was 31.
I would also like to express my gratitude to our dedicated teachers and staff, who have worked incredibly hard. A special shout out to our Year 12 teachers who put in hours of work and went above and beyond to ensure our Year 12 students were well prepared for the demands of their final year at school.
Thank you to our College Council President, Asaf Harel, and the members of our College Council team- Anne George, Harry Lohe, Alec Tarshis, Joss Honour, Danielle Moore and Sasha Curtain. It has been a year of significant change but also optimism and opportunity. I thank you for your time at our monthly meetings, and your energy and professionalism and the expertise each of you bring to our college council.
It is with great excitement that I announce the appointment of our 2024 Assistant Principal of Senior school, Mrs Pennie Whiteman. Pennie is dedicated and passionate and has been an Acting Assistant Principal at Patterson River Secondary College, she is known for building positive and meaningful relationships with staff, students and parents. Pennie is also an experienced VCE Psychology teacher, and will teach a Year 12 Psychology class next year. We warmly welcome, Pennie, and I have great confidence in her ability to lead and connect with our school community.
As of May, I have been the Acting Principal of Brighton Secondary College which has come with challenges and complexities. I would however like to acknowledge that this year, we have had some very challenging times for all members of our school community, however we look toward the future, making 2024 a bigger and brighter school community. I sincerely thank all those who have continued to support Brighton Secondary College for their endeavours and deep care for our community.
Have a safe and restful break.
