8S Technology- Textiles- Tote Bags

Year 8S made Tote Bags learning to layout a pattern and cut fabric for the desired look for their lined Tote bag, following the design and construction process. They also created a logo decal cut using our CRICUT machine, which was ironed on to the front of the bag, except in one case a tiny hologram penguin logo was applied to the inside of the bag. Students created their logos using their initials as a starting point using the program Adobe Illustrator. It was a great effort as most students had not used a sewing machine before.

Year 7

All Year 7 Art classes this year explored aspects of Australian Indigenous Practices to gain an understanding of how First Nation people used native plants as a natural resource for both ceremonial and domestic purposes.

The gum leaf was used by students in a symbolic and decorative way as it was used for not only medicinal purposes but also for welcome to county ceremonies. Students used the elements of line and shape to enhance the theme in a highly creative way.

Ancient Japanese artform know as Notan.

Students have worked with black and white cut paper to create designs in the ancient Japanese artform know as Notan.

Notan (pronounced no-tan) is a Japanese term that means 'light and dark harmony/balance.  It's a design concept that looks at how light and dark elements of a composition interact only using black and white. Notan is the underlying value structure of a painting, but can be interpreted as an art form that uses black & white paper to create positive and negative patterns. It involves the play and placement to light and dark elements of an artwork.
