Year 10 Update
A Positive Start to the Academic Year
As the newly appointed Year 10 Year Level Coordinator at Shelford, I want to express my gratitude for the warm reception I've received since joining the school community. I would also like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to each and every Year 10 student for the positive start you've made to this school year. It's been an absolute pleasure getting to know you all and witnessing your enthusiasm for learning and getting my first taste of what makes Shelford so special, truly unique.
As we navigate the year ahead, myself and the Wellbeing Mentors Ms Katrina Gu (10 A) and Ms Tara Fearn (10B), have started the year with a strong focus on personal growth, achievement and memorable experiences. Through our Quærite Wellbeing Program our theme, ‘resilience, respect, and relationships’, underscores the importance of nurturing positive social connections and being the best version of ourselves.
Additionally, many of our Year 10 students have begun their VCE journey, taking on Unit 1&2 subjects. While this marks an exciting step forward, it's essential to manage the workload effectively. Here are some important points to consider:
- Time Management: Students are encouraged to create a study schedule and prioritise tasks to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
- Seek Support: Students are reminded to reach out to their teachers or peers for help when needed. Asking questions and seeking clarification is key to understanding the material.
- Balance is Key: Students are encouraged to maintain a balance between academics, extracurricular activities, and personal time. Taking breaks and pursuing hobbies can help prevent burnout.
- Stay Organised: Students must ensure they keep track of due dates, CATs and exam dates to stay on top of their workload.
Furthermore, our students have begun training for the GSV (Girls Sport Victoria) competitions and the House Swimming Carnival is fast approaching on 29 February. Another important date to note is Year 10 immunisations to be held on Tuesday 23 April. Further information to be provided.
I'm enthusiastic about the year ahead and committed to supporting our Year 10 students in every aspect of their education and personal development. Together, let's make this year filled with growth, success and lasting memories.
