Setting yourself up for a great year

It has been wonderful to welcome our Senior School students back for the start of a new academic year. Their arrival always reminds us of our core purpose and the school classrooms and grounds come alive with the energy of eager minds ready to explore, learn, and create.

The start of a new school year is always filled with promise, opportunities for growth, and the chance to create lasting memories. One opportunity that a new year offers is the chance for our students to set themselves up for success while also enjoying and balancing their life outside the school gates. Andrew Fuller recently wrote an article in which he shared how our students can achieve their goals while having an enjoyable year ahead. Some of his key points were:

  1. Build positive relationships with everyone you know - parents, teachers and friends. Cultivating as many friendships as you can helps to reduce stress levels.
  2. Challenge yourself – Discover your learning strengths and build on them to help you walk the pathway to success. Focusing on what is going to go wrong, means that you will end up taking this path. Think positive!
  3. Prepare yourself for learning – Thinking positive is not enough to achieve goals. Find ways to actively reduce distractions or else you may find your learning journey can be frustrating at times.
  4. Get enough sleep – Sleep is a wonderful thing. It helps you to manage stress, stay happy, think clearly, and increase grades.
  5. Do the most important things first – Get into the habit of being effective. Ask yourself What is the one thing I could do this week in each subject area that would improve my results?’  Then do it.

High Achievers’ Assembly

On Thursday, we will welcome back our accomplished Year 12 students of 2023 to honour their remarkable achievements and commemorate the exciting paths they are on the brink of exploring. This assembly is eagerly anticipated, serving as a moment for our entire community to collectively reflect on the educational journey these students have undertaken at Shelford. It also serves as an inspiring platform, urging our current students to establish their own distinct and attainable goals.
