Dear SJV Families,

We hope all our mums had a truly wonderful day for Mother's Day a couple of weeks ago and were thoroughly spoilt by their children! Whether you're a biological mum, step-mum, adoptive mum, foster mum, or a maternal figure in any capacity, your love, care, and guidance are deeply valued and appreciated.

It has been a busy and exciting few weeks at SJV, with many events and programs taking place—including the First Eucharist Family Workshops (tonight), STOMP, and our special Mother’s Day Assembly (Friday 9th of May). One of the highlights was the Mother’s Day Breakfast held last Friday morning. We were thrilled to welcome over 200 mums and children to the event! The MPR was beautifully set up by dedicated members of the PFA (dads), creating a warm and festive atmosphere. The breakfast was a tremendous success, and it was wonderful to see so many families come together to celebrate.

A very special thank you goes to Matt Spencer, Jess Viviani, and all the PFA members who helped organise, set up, and pack down the space. Thank you also to the many dads who came early to assist with serving—your support helped make the morning run smoothly and successfully. It was truly a team effort!

🏆 Special Congratulations to the SJV Aerobics Team! 🏆

We are excited to share some fantastic news—the SJV Aerobics Team not only took home a win last weekend at the Super Series Event in Rowville but will also now participate in the  State Championships!

This incredible achievement is a testament to the team’s hard work, dedication, and unstoppable spirit. Their commitment to excellence continues to inspire our entire school community. A special thank you to all of the parents, coaches and staff who have assisted behind the scenes and supported the girls on this magnificent achievement. We are so proud of the girls and can’t wait to cheer you on at States!

Go Team SJV!

Kingston Junior Mayor Competition

Well done and congratulations to our Year 6 dream team of Tia, Oliver, Evie & Harper who competed in the Kingston Junior Mayor competition last week at the Kingston City Hall in Moorabbin.  Tia was elected to be the junior counselor, representing all the schools from the Chicquita ward. The Chicquita Ward starts on Brisbane Terrace and goes all around Cheltenham, Heatherton, Moorabbin Airport and Mentone. Tia along with her team represented our school brilliantly in a very professional presentation.  A special thanks to Mrs Greco and Ms Fisher for preparing the children for this education enhancement event.

Sporting News

Congratulations to our School Cross Country team who competed in the Mordialloc District Cross Country Championships on Tuesday last week.  All of our team members (40 in total) competed to a very high standard. A special congratulations to Xavier Scott (3rd place), Jacob Murray (7th place) and Joaqin Ortega (1st place) for qualifying for the Division Championships in a few weeks time. Congratulations to our team and to Mrs Monotti our PE and Sports Leader.  Thanks also to our supervising staff on the day.

School Winter Uniforms

All students are now required to be in their full school winter uniform.  It is an expectation that winter shirts are tucked in at all times and that the correct shoes are also worn.

Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining our school’s high standard of presentation.

Sacramental Program

Family Workshop - First Eucharist

Thursday 22nd May at St John Vianney’s School - MPR @ 7.00pm - 8.00pm

As a part of the process for the First Eucharist program, there will be a family workshop presented by Fr. Elio Capra tonight from 7pm-8pm.

We are inviting Parents along with the First Eucharist candidates to attend this workshop which will be held in the MPR and the Year 3/4 classrooms. Parents will remain in the MPR where they will have a presentation by Fr Elio Capra. The candidates will be taken to the Year 3/4  classrooms by members of staff and will participate in activities based on the Sacrament of First Eucharist. The candidates will then be brought back to the hall at the conclusion of the evening (7.50pm).

This is an important step in the First Eucharist program so I encourage you to attend. Further details will be sent to you closer to the time.

STOMP Concert Tuesday 10th June

SJV Fete

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 21st @ 3:30pm.

If you are new to the school and haven’t been a part of the SJV Fete - now is the time to get involved.  The SJV fete is famous in this area, has been running for over 50 years annually (excluding two crazy Covid years) and is the most wonderful community event.

As a parent, you will get the chance to learn new skills, hone skills you have, make new friends and enhance the enjoyment of your own child’s school experience. There are many jobs in the lead up, on the day and the day after.  All families need to be involved to make this a successful event.

There are, however, a couple of larger roles that we need filled ASAP.  They come with a handover, so you won’t be left wondering what to do.

Craft Stall Coordinator/s

This person/s organises crafts to be made and sold at the event, often hosting evenings/daytimes to make crafts together.  All parents/grandparents made.

Food Stall Coordinator/s

This person/s organises a team that arranges for the food to be served and sets up the BBQ's etc to cook at the SJV Fete.

Silent / Live Auction Coordinator/s

This person/s organises and arranges a team that sources donations that can be auctioned live or can be a part of a Silent Auction for the night.

General Committee members

Assisting with marketing

Sourcing silent auction items

Supporting stall holders

Attending meetings

None of these tasks are onerous when we work as a team.  Thanks to those parents that have already stepped up to fill some roles.  It will be a wonderful experience.

Please contact Nate Viviani with any questions Nathan.Viviani@inchcape.com, the office or send an email to me, principal@sjvparkdale.catholic.edu.au to put your name down to be a part of this great event.

Remember, it is our big fundraising event for the year and we encourage every family to be involved in some way.

Parents & Friends Association - SJV Dads Group

Calling all dads to join the SJV Dads Group on WhatsApp. Scan the QR code below to join. This is a great way to communicate special events that are taking place for all the dads here at SJV. A special thanks to Matt Spencer for coordinating this.

2026  Enrolments

Our Requests for School Tours are continuing with many booking times to come and visit our wonderful school. Enrolments for Prep 2026 are now open and we encourage all families to submit their applications as soon as possible.  If you have a child or you know someone wanting to tour schools for their child, please encourage them to book a school tour by contacting Nicole in our front office (Limited places available).

Google Review

We hope your experience with St John Vianney's Primary School Parkdale has been positive and enriching. If you have a moment, we would greatly appreciate it if you could share your thoughts and experiences by leaving us a Google business review. Your feedback not only helps us continue to improve and grow but also assists other families in making informed decisions about their children's education. Thank you for taking the time to support our school community!

Zebra Crossing works on Brisbane Terrace

As mentioned in the email sent earlier this week, I have been informed by the Council that they were waiting on formal approval from the Department of Transport (DTP) and that as of late last week, DTP has given their preliminary support for the project, subject to a few minor design changes. These design changes include:

  • An additional precast island to the south-west of the crossing to enhance pedestrian safety.
  • Two more precast islands to the south of the speed cushions, which will help prevent vehicles from driving around the cushions when no cars are parked nearby. (Please see the diagram below for reference.)

We expect to receive formal approval from DTP sometime later this week. Following that, the Council will be meeting again with the contractors to make the necessary adjustments to the original quote. Once they have the revised quotes, they will request an updated delivery and installation timeline and will share these details with us as soon as they possibly can.

I will continue to update you all when more/new information comes to hand.

Thank you for your continued patience and support as we work through this important project.

School Closure Dates Term 2

  • The school will be closed on Friday the 6th of June as there will be a professional development day for all staff. This is the Friday of the King's Birthday long weekend.
  • The King's Birthday Holiday is Monday 9th of June. This is a public holiday and children are not required to attend school.

Reminders

  • Dogs - Please note that for the safety and wellbeing of all members of our community, no dogs are permitted inside the school grounds and they must not be left unattended tied up at the gates. Adult supervision and holding of the leash is so important around vulnerable places such as schools.  We love dogs but we do have to take care of all members of our community.

  • Bikes and Scooters - Please walk bikes and scooters when moving through the school grounds.

  • Punctuality - It is expected that all students are to be at school by no later than 8.45am and not any time up to 9am. From 8.45am to 9am is crucial for students to get themselves organised, start the day with Meditation, prayer, take the roll and ready to commence their day promptly. Formal lessons begin at 9am. Any child who arrives at or after 9am is to be signed in at the office by a parent/guardian. I ask all parents to make sure that you adhere to these times.

  • The next Newsletter will be shared on Thursday 5th of June.

Regards
