Year 3 to Year 6

Junior School Highlights and Upcoming Events

Year 3: Preparing for Mother's Day and Religious Education

Our Year 3 students have been busy preparing for Mother's Day, integrating their activities with lessons in Religious Education. They have been learning about the importance of being loving and kind to themselves and others, reflecting on how these values can be expressed in their daily lives. This also links very well to the preparation of the Sacrament of Reconciliation later this Term. The Year 3 Assembly was a great success today, showcasing their hard work and dedication. Well done, Year 3!

Year 4: Expanding Literacy and Exploring History

Year 4 students are diving deep into literacy through the Talk 4 Writing program, focusing on action and suspense. This approach is helping them enhance their storytelling skills and creativity. Additionally, in HASS they are exploring the history of early Australian explorers and the timeline of First Nations events. This historical journey is a wonderful preparation for Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week, fostering a deeper understanding and respect for our shared history.

Years 5 and 6: Engaging in Novel Studies

Our Years 5 and 6 students have embarked on exciting novel studies. Year 5 students are enjoying "Rotters and Squatters" by Jackie French, a fascinating look at Australian history from 1820 to 1850. This book, part of the Fair Dinkum Histories series, explores the transition from a penal settlement to a more sustainable colony, highlighting the rise of squatters and new settlements.

Year 6 students are delving into "Refuge" by Jackie French. This novel tells the story of Faris, an asylum seeker who finds himself in an Australia he has always dreamed of after a shipwreck. The focus on comprehension, vocabulary, and literacy skills is helping students gain a deeper understanding of the text and its themes.

Eagle's Cup Preparation

Excitement is building as our Year 6 students prepare for the Eagle's Cup. They are looking forward to competing against other Catholic Primary Schools in football, netball, and soccer. This event promises to be a highlight of the term, fostering teamwork, sportsmanship, and school spirit.

We look forward to a very engaging and busy term ahead! Thank you for your continued support and encouragement.
