Catholic Identity

Catholic Identity - Louise Frewen

The Catholic Church has a new Pope!  Pope Leo XIV was chosen by his fellow cardinals last week with the massive job of leading the Catholic Church into the future.

Pope Leo is the 267th pope of the Catholic Church becoming the first American-born pontiff in history. A member of the Order of Saint Augustine, he brings a rich background of pastoral service, including many years spent in Peru.

His choice of the name "Leo XIV" pays homage to Pope Leo XIII, known for his advocacy of workers' rights during the Industrial Revolution, signalling a commitment to addressing modern ethical challenges, such as those posed by artificial intelligence . In his first public address, Pope Leo XIV emphasised the themes of peace, inclusivity, and care for the poor and marginalised, while also expressing a desire to uphold traditional Catholic values .  We say a prayer for him in the hope that his vision of care for the poor and marginalised and for peace is realised very quickly.

School Prayer

God our Father,

Bless our school of St John’s, So that we may love you more.

Watch over and protect us, our families, our friends and our sacred earth.

Lord, guide us on our journey as we try to be the best we can be.

Keep us safe from harm, healthy in life and loving to all those we meet each day.

We make our prayer through Christ Our Lord

Amen
