Principal's Message

Welcome to our first newsletter for Term 2!

The term commenced with our staff participating in three days of professional learning which focused on the science of learning.  This underpins much of the Magnify project and was certainly very purposeful learning for our staff as we continue with the Magnify rollout. On the afternoon of day three our staff were invited to reflect on the learning and commence an action plan in their teams of how they would incorporate this learning into their teaching practice.

It was wonderful on ANZAC day to have some of our students, families and staff attend the Tatura ANZAC parade. At the conclusion of the service, we took a photo of the Sacred Heart people in attendance, it was so lovely that two of our ex-students (cadets) opted to join in the photo showing the strong connection that our graduates have with our school.

Last week we warmly welcomed our students back for the commencement of term 2. It was lovely to see the happy faces of our students as they returned on Monday!  Students have settled well into the routine of their school day.  Cross country on Friday was a lovely way for the students to close out the first week back to school.

This week we celebrate Catholic Education week!  Keep an eye out for the articles in the Shepp News and the Advisor highlighting our Open Day and an editorial feature on the new furniture within our learning spaces.  Yesterday 22 students from Grades 4- 6 accompanied myself and Andrew Nilbett to look at different sport courts in the area.  We visited Tatura Children’s Centre, St Mary’s Mooroopna and St Augustine’s in Kyabram.  Julie Murrell attended on behalf of the Parent Advisory Board and Louis Worm who has extensive involvement in sport courts in the district also joined us.  The excursion will provide the opportunity for our students and parents to have a voice in what our court refurbishment will look like.  The excursion also provided us with an opportunity to visit other Catholic schools during Catholic Education Week.

The involvement of our Year 6 leaders in today’s Open Day will provide a great opportunity for our students to practice their leadership skills and show potential new families all that we have to offer at our school.  We are looking forward to showcasing our school to prospective families. The students will have an opportunity during this week to participate in some interviews which we will showcase to parents.  The focus of the videos will be what makes our school special and what is good about attending a Catholic school? We look forward to sharing the thoughts of our students on this topic! Our week will conclude with a lovely breakfast celebration followed by Mass for our mothers and special people. We look forward to this special event.

As we commenced our Term we farewelled Pope Francis.  We have been reflecting with many of our students on the life and example Pope Francis gave to the world. He challenged us to be Catholics who share a deep regard for others and for our environment.  There is so much written about to honour Pope Francis but I have chosen a simple prayer that has been shared with our staff and students which speaks volumes about Pope Francis:
