What’s Happening in Year 3 in Weeks 5 and 6
The Year 3 students had a fantastic time celebrating all of our mothers and special friends during our Open Afternoon. We hope that all our families had a fantastic day celebrating together.
We thoroughly enjoyed our Japanese day. The students participated in four different activities including painting cherry blossoms trees on Japanese fans, drawing Magna characters, and participating in furoshiki workshop and playing the Otedama Bean Bag ame.

Year 4
What’s Happening in Year 4 in Weeks 5 and 6
Over the past two weeks, the Year 4 students have enjoyed participating in several exciting events. The Civics and Citizenship Incursion was highly engaging and informative. The four grades in three groups learnt about the preferential voting system that occurs in Australia. The students then nominated candidates, heard their views on how they would improve our electorate and then voted for their choice. The elected member then held a mock local committee meeting. The students were all very respectful and considered when discussing these important processes.
Beaumaris Primary School’s annual Japanese Day was, once again, a huge success across the whole school. The Year 4 students decorated Japanese fans, learnt a traditional dance and completed an online class of Furoshiki. This is the Japanese art of folding cloth for practical purposes.
Wellbeing
Students are currently revisiting strategies to assist each other when dealing with friendships in the yard.
Literacy
Students in Year 4 are currently enjoying their novel study. They have been expanding their vocabulary and working on their fluency when reading. Students are also working on writing concise paragraphs that discuss one point. Our new spelling program, Word Origins, is being implemented throughout the cohort. Students are learning about the origins of different morphemes and completing tasks based these morphemes.
Maths
The ongoing practice of a ‘daily review’ at the beginning of every maths session is continuing to help students retain new maths concepts they have been taught throughout the year. Over the coming weeks, students will be discovering the relationship between decimals and fractions as well as adding and subtracting decimal numbers.
Knowledge Unit
Our Knowledge Unit, ‘Civics and Citizenship’, will focus on how laws are created and changed over the coming few weeks.
Homework
The Year 4 students are expected to read every night and record their progress in their personal diaries. It is the responsibility of the student to bring their diary to school every day and take it home each night to log their reading. Classroom teachers will be checking and signing these diaries regularly to monitor student reading habits. The student diary will also be used to highlight important dates and reminders. It is also encouraged that students practise their times tables, particularly the 2, 5 and 10 tables as rapid recall tests will soon be happening in classrooms throughout the term.
Important Year 4 Dates:
- Tuesday 20th May – District Cross Country
- Wednesday 28th May – Division Cross Country
