Life Education - Harold's Friend Ship
The Foundation children loved their Life Education session, particularly meeting the renowned Harold The Giraffe. The children participated in the Harold’s Friend Ship module, eagerly and actively participating in the 60 minute session.
After building a model spaceship at school, Harold and his friends Boots and Red, ventured into an imaginary world in outer space. As the adventure unfolded, the children explored:
- How to build respectful relationships
- Recognising and identifying emotions and body clues
- Strategies to manage different feelings and emotions
- Protective behaviours and help-seeking strategies
Students were supported to learn to recognise the importance of relationships and the best way to seek help in a variety of situations. They also talked about and modelled strategies to manage their feelings and emotions.
At the end of the session all the FKJ students and one teacher got a chance to take a picture of themselves and Harold which was very exciting!
After the 60 minute session, students in Teams Foundation to Grade Four, met a life-sized Harold! This Harold was the father of the Harold that we met at the Harold's space ship session. He waved to all the children and gave the school a special Life Education certificate. Two FKJ students, Goldie and Harvey accepted this certificate on behalf of the school and had a picture taken with this very tall giraffe!
At the end of the session the FKJ students reflected on their Life Education sessions. Below are some of their responses...
Adil – I liked meeting Harold the giraffe because he was nice.
Harley – I liked Flat Mat because he had a heart.
Milan – I liked the box that Harold lived in because the box was for Harold.
Zahra – I learnt that I can listen to music and do a dance to help me not feel scared.
Rihati – I liked watching Harold go into space on a rocket ship!
Kayla - I liked meeting Harold’s dad.
Team Foundation would like to send our thanks to Ms Brennan who organised the Life Education sessions for our school. We had a wonderful time learning about how we can be good friends and manage our bodies when we have strong feelings!
Echi Echidna Adventures
In Week 3 Harper shared her exciting adventures with Echi with FKJ. To begin Echi's adventures, Harper read a picture book to him so that he would sleep well. Harper then took Echi to her ballet class and showed Echi how to point his toes and spin on the spot! Echi was extremely impressed when Harper showed him how to play a Guzheng, a traditional Chinese musical instrument. Harper played a soothing song to Echi, which made him feel calm and relaxed. Other fun activities were: going to a cafe, park and having a picnic with her family as well as being creative with Lego blocks! Thank you so much Harper for looking after Echi, sharing your life with him and sharing your adventures with your class!
At the beginning of Week 4 Lukas shared the fun adventures he did with Echi. To begin Lukas took Echi to his swimming lesson and shared many fun swimming moves in the water. Lukas then taught Echi a fun card game called, 'Sleeping Queens.' Next, Lukas shared a big bowl of delicious popcorn with Echi, as his family had their first family movie night! The last exciting adventure was going to Lukas's cousin's birthday party which was held at Myuna Farm. Echi and Lukas met lots of different farm animals. Echi's favourite animal was the wooly sheep! Thank you Lukas for sharing this fun week with your classmates! It was lovely to hear all the exciting things you did with Echi!
We look forward to hearing more Echi adventures in the future! You're such a lucky echidna Echi!
