Over the last fortnight in Reading, both of our focus texts explored the different seasons of the year. The students made connections to the texts by constructing their own Months of the Year storybooks, and they enjoyed creating vibrant paintings to represent the cycle that a tree goes through during the four seasons.
In Writing, students developed persuasive texts about which season they believe is the best. To be convincing, they were asked to come up with three arguments that supported their point of view.
Our Maths learning was also linked to the two reading texts. Students spent time examining calendars and describing the duration and sequence of events using years, months, weeks, days, and hours.
This term, we will be conducting many science experiments as part of our unit on Stimulating Science. Over the past fortnight, students have been learning what happens when different materials are mixed together. This was demonstrated through hands-on experiments such as making an erupting volcano, making playdough, and getting raisins to "dance." They have also been learning about the importance of making predictions before conducting experiments and then recording their observations and results.
