Term 2, Week 4
Last week in Topic, we made playdough. This week we used it to make pigs, which we then made boats for out of tin foil. The next test was to see if they could float!
We have been having a lot of fun learning about capacity in Maths. We filled our shoes with blocks, made and filled The Three Little Pigs cereal bowls and experimented with filling different sized containers (full, half full, nearly empty, empty). We had lots of very big messes to pack up!
We also got to build stick houses, and test if the Big Bad Wolf could blow them over!
Thank you so much for your donations so far to help build our troll bridges. We will be doing this next Friday (23rd) so please continue to send in anything that you have! Please make sure that they are clean.
In Week 6, we will be celebrating Milo's Birthday! Every time we learnt a new sound at school, we read the story - 'Milo's Birthday Surprise', and we were introduced to a character that matches the sound. The very first character we met was Milo when we were learning the sound that /m/ makes. Milo then invited all his friends to his party. By week 6 of this term, we will have met all of the characters so it is time to throw Milo a party!
On Friday the 30th of May, we invite our Prep students to choose their favourite character from the book to dress up as. Please try and create a costume from what you already have at home. We ask that the chosen costume represents a character from the story... no Elsa or Bluey or superhero costumes this time!
Please look at the picture below with your child for some inspiration:
Literacy
In week 5, we will be learning the sound for 'x' and 'w'. We will be continuing to practise writing words, lists and sentences using words that include these sounds and other sounds we know already. In week 6, we will be revising all of the sounds we have learnt so far whilst getting ready for Milo's Party! We will be reading Three Billy Goats Gruff and Milo's Birthday Surprise over the next two weeks. We will be learning the Heart Words 'of' and 'are'.
Maths
In week 5, we will be learning about location. This includes directional language such as above, below, in front and behind. In week 6, we will be extending our measurement learning to mass.
Topic
In Topic, we will be using the different materials we have been exploring (and collecting!) to design and build a bridge for the billy goats to cross.
Respectful Relationships- In RRRR we will be focusing on positive coping; managing and noticing emotions.
Well done to our Week 2 Maths Challenge winners - 1/2 Murphy! Please find the new Maths Challenge below!
