Grade Preps have continued with their topic on Farm Animals. Signs include:

farm, animal, farmer, tractor, cow, bull, sheep, lamb, duck, pig, guinea pig, horse, dog, cat, donkey, kangaroo, mouse, goat, rooster, chicken, bird, snake, lizard, rabbit, goose, frog, and fish. Many of the animal signs can be associated with the animal we are signing, so they are not very difficult. Grade Preps have enjoyed a drama activity to practise their signs, acting out the farm animals that Mrs R or a class mate is signing! Students are continuing to complete animal drawings in their mini books of: "Old MacDonald Had a Farm!" We are now also combining animals with colours and introducing signs to describe animals.

Grades 1-6 have started their new topic on Feelings/Emotions, practising the following signs in sentences…

G1-6s are all practising the following signs:

* Emotion signs: happy – excited – surprise – trust – angry – confused – disappointed – frustrated – fear/scared – shy – sad – good – bad – okay – upset – love – tired – sleepy – sick – nervous – sorry – hungry – thirsty – hopeful – proud – kind

* Extras for G3-6s: silly – naughty – bored – brave

* Extras for G5-6s only: lucky – unlucky – forgetful – calm – safe – curious – patient

Grade 1-2s are representing various emotions/feelings in pictures to sign to the class. We have also been revising the importance of using facial expression and body language to express deeper feelings, in conversational sentences like: How are you? I'm good, I'm bad, I'm okay, I feel... a little, or VERY... (nervous, tired, excited etc.), and signing 2 feelings together in sentences (eg: I feel happy and excited, I feel sad and sick, I feel shy and nervous.)

Grades 3-6s have been creating PowerPoints to present in small groups to practise using Feelings/Emotions in sentences.

G5-6s are combining Feelings with Family members to create their sentences.

Here are some photos of the G5-6 students presenting their Family Feelings PowerPoints in their small groups this week:

Gr. 1/2 in the spotlight! What have we been up to?

This week, Gr. 1/2s have been learning about the note E and rests by playing the desk bells and the resonator xylophones. We are learning to connect the note E with the colour yellow, the Solfège name Mi and the scale degree number 3. We had lots of fun playing, singing and signing the Solfège for “Hola E” as a class. We also had many students volunteer to perfom solos and duets for their peers.
