Engagement & Wellbeing

Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships:
Our term two topic of 'Help-Seeking' in RRRR has woven beautifully with our Topic - 'Somebody Else's Shoes'. 3-4 Daenke have learned how our communication skills are more than just our words; that we can use our body language and actions to communicate kindly with our peers. We learned that ‘Active Listening’ is not necessarily about offering solutions, but showing empathy and understanding.
What the students have to say about Active Listening:
Thomas - "It is kind of like the short video we watched from Inside Out, where you have to listen more than talk. We can try and relate to the person too.”
Charlotte F – “You should pay attention, listen, wait until they’ve said what they need to.”
Elke W. – “When listening to a friend, stay in contact with what they are saying instead of just ignoring them and thinking about something else.”
Nazara – “Don’t say anything that can make a friend sad or angry. Listen to what they’re actually saying and try to understand.”
Hannah R – “When we were practicing, you have to approach with a soft, gentle approach. You shouldn’t try and solve their problem, just listen.”
Ava B – “Listen to their problems, and try and see if you can help them figure it out, not figure it out for them.”
Taelon W – “When you’re saying sorry, don’t get their attention in a bad way, like a slap on the shoulder, be gentle about it.”
Darby SA – “Tell the truth when you’re saying what happened.”
Through a number of role-playing scenarios, we identified strategies to support our peers when they need help and practiced asking for help, in response to certain events.
What the students have to say about roleplaying in RRRR and our Social-Emotional Lessons:
Isla C – “We get to show what we’re thinking about and not just have to say an answer.”
Ella - “We do roleplays so we get opportunities to act in front of people and practice the skill.”
Imogen – “We do roleplays because if something happens to us, then we will know what to do.”
Over the past fortnight, Prep students have been revisiting our school value of Being Responsible. Last week, we explored how we can show responsibility by putting our rubbish in the correct bin. This week, we discussed the importance of using appropriate language at school and the expected behaviours during assembly.
This term, Prep students have been working hard to earn Gugu stickers to help complete our class puzzle and work toward a classroom reward. A highlight for many was bringing their favourite teddy to school last week—it was a fun and well-deserved treat!
We’re also proud to recognise some students who have consistently demonstrated our school values. These students have now earned 25 Gugu stickers—an excellent achievement! Keep up the fantastic work!
MINDFULNESS CLUB
Our new Mindfulness Club opened for the first time last week. We were very happy with how many people enjoyed the space. Thank you to Indigo, who generously donated lots of quiet activities for us to enjoy. A big thank you to our SRC reps for setting up and supervising with us. We look forward to seeing lots more faces each Thursday at 1:30 in the BER.
Mindfulness Resources
The new Prep Mindfulness Resources were put to good use this week! Thanks SRC!

SunSmart Policy
The official implementation of our SunSmart policy will conclude at the end of April, so hats are not officially required after this time.
However, students are still encouraged to continue being SunSmart throughout the whole year.
Families are encouraged to access the daily local sun protection times via the SunSmart widget on the school’s website, sunsmart.com.au or the free SunSmart app. Sun protection times can also be found at the Bureau of Meteorology website and live UV levels are available from ARPANSA.
Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge
So far we have 17 students who have begun their Premier’s Reading Challenge from home. These students have read a combined total of 152 books! What an amazing start for these students.
Some classes have also began their Challenge as a class and are getting through some books very quickly!
If you are yet to start your Challenge from home, I look forward to seeing more logged books appear in the next few weeks!
Happy reading everyone.
