Our team (and emails) are as follows;

What we are learning...

TESTING, TESTING, 123...

This fortnight, we’ve jumped into testing—woohoo! It’s been a great opportunity to challenge ourselves and demonstrate how much we’ve grown in our learning. We showcased our writing through 'Cold Writes' and used PAT and Essential Assessment to highlight our progress in both Literacy and Mathematics.

MATHEMATICS

In Applied Mathematics, we’ve been exploring area and perimeter, using our knowledge to design enclosures for our very own zoo—a fun and practical way to apply our learning!

During our Problem-Solving sessions, we dove deeper into using area and perimeter, by designing and drawing ourselves as - robots!

LITERACY

Our literacy focus this fortnight has been on using connectives to link ideas and improve the flow of our writing. We revisited connectives introduced earlier in the year and discussed how they help structure our thoughts clearly and logically. We played 'Connective Tennis' as an engaging way to brush up on our connective use. Students explored different types of connectives, including:

  • Addition: also, and, furthermore
  • Contrast: but, however, although
  • Cause & Effect: because, so, therefore
  • Time: meanwhile, after that, later

We included more work on 'emulation', this time trying our hand at applying strategies used by Dragon Girls author, Maddy Mara. We also refined our editing and up-levelling skills by helping “celebrities” improve their tweets.

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING

In our Upstander lesson, we learned and practised effective communication strategies for addressing bullying behaviour. We were introduced to three communication styles—Passive, Aggressive, and Assertive—and explored the characteristics of each. Through discussion and role-play, we developed an understanding of how to respond confidently and respectfully using assertive "I" statements and by seeking help from a trusted adult. These important skills empower us to stand up for ourselves and others in a safe and supportive way.

In our Respectful Relationships lesson, we explored the key factors that contribute to positive relationships. We identified communication skills that support different groups and purposes, and described characteristics of cooperative behaviour. These skills were put into practice during a fun and engaging 'mime game,' which helped highlight the importance of teamwork and effective communication.

TOPIC

We were incredibly fortunate to welcome a very special guest speaker, Cai Lidgett, to our classroom. Cai generously shared insights into his daily life as a person living with cerebral palsy. His engaging and thoughtful presentation sparked curiosity and inspired many questions, which he answered with warmth and enthusiasm. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Cai for taking time out of his busy high school schedule to spend time with us—his visit was both enlightening and greatly appreciated.
