The Urban Art Scene

THE URBAN ART SCENE
Although we had a very early start to our day our annual Melbourne Art Trip was another fantastic experience enjoyed by Rochester Secondary Students from Years 9, 10, 11 & 12 Visual Art classes. The day was fully funded due to the generosity of Rochester Community House, the National Bank and ACMI.
The day included viewing Top Designs at the Melbourne Museum and Top Arts at Ian Potter. These two exhibitions included VCE student work from 2024 giving our students an insight into what makes a good Unit 3 & 4 folio. Not only did students have the opportunity to view these folios but students were also allowed to explore the museum.
The highlights of the day were no doubt The Future and other Fictions exhibition at ACMI. This exhibition 'showcases the people, costumes and artworks imagining bright and bold features through film, videogames, contemporary art, interactives and more.' After viewing the exhibition students had the opportunity to create their own poster using a layering technique with printed acetate. Using the bar code on their ticket students could then scan their poster and have their work projected as a public artwork within the exhibition space.
Hosier Lane again was very popular with our students. Students loved the colour and the ever-changing imagery of this famous bluestone laneway. Hosier Lane is known across the globe for it's urban art scene.
Special thanks to David Ind for driving the bus, Miss Conway and Miss Doller for giving up their time to accompany students to Melbourne. It was a long day so we appreciated your efforts.
