Japanese Immersion NGV Excursion

At the end of term 1, 7E, 8E, 9E and year 10 Japanese students visited the NGV to explore the immersive Yayoi Kusama exhibition. We learnt about how events in Kusama's life affected her art, and the different ways she expressed her interest in the concept of 'infinity'. Students worked in groups to tour around and take photos and developed new friendships across year levels.

Some highlights according to students:

'I liked the big pumpkin in the main part of the NGV, and then I liked learning about the meaning behind some of the artworks in the talk, especially Narcissus Garden.' - Zac 9E

'Going into the immersive rooms. It was the highlight because it felt like I was in the artwork.' - Layah 9E

'My favourite part of the exhibition is the cool paintings and the rooms with mirrors because it felt like I was in space.' - Joash 7E

'I liked going into all the rooms that were immersive, they were really cool and I liked experiencing instead of just looking.' - Julieta 9E

'I learnt about her childhood and how a large part of her art and creative work came from her hallucinations' - Elsie Yr 10

'I learnt how to keep my group together and asking the question of how they were doing' - Teisha 9E

'It is more enjoyable if you have a small group with you and not just your friends or the whole class.' - Arthur 7E

Thank you to all students for being respectful and attentive throughout the excursion, and especially for our group leaders for doing a superb job in taking care of the younger students! Thank you also to Melches Sensei, Muramatsu Sensei, G Sensei and Langdon Sensei for leading the students on this excursion.
