From the Principal
Dear Glen Eira College Community,
It is my pleasure to introduce myself as the new Principal of Glen Eira College. Over the past three weeks, I have had the privilege of getting to know our vibrant school community -listening, learning, and gaining a deeper understanding of the many strengths, challenges, and opportunities for growth that lie ahead for our college.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our dedicated staff for their hard work and commitment in making our recent Open Night such a success. Your passion and professionalism were on full display, and it was wonderful to see so many families engaging with the learning and programs on offer. Special thanks also go to our School Council President, Stephen Loyer, for his attendance and continued support of our school’s vision.
Congratulations to all the students who contributed to Open Night, particularly our student leaders. Your enthusiasm, leadership, and willingness to showcase your learning and experiences made a lasting impression on our visitors and truly reflected the spirit of Glen Eira College.
Looking ahead, we have a number of school tours scheduled for prospective students and families. This year, I am excited to introduce the opportunity for our own students to join these tours as ambassadors - sharing their perspectives and helping to showcase what makes Glen Eira College such a unique and welcoming place to learn and grow.
As I continue to settle in, my focus remains on listening and understanding what matters most to our community. I invite your feedback and ideas as we work together to build on our strengths and address our challenges. Please feel free to reach out to me directly or through our upcoming forums.
Thank you for your warm welcome and ongoing support. I look forward to working with you all as we continue to strive for excellence at Glen Eira College.
Warm regards,
Jane Thornton
Principal
ANZAC Day Assembly
We had our GEC ANZAC Day Assembly on Monday 28th April.
We were very grateful to welcome our guests Dr Doug Mackenzie from Caulfield RSL and Zoe Keefe from Oakleigh Brass who played the bugle.
Dr Doug Mackenzie has been in the ADF for 52 years, 12 in the Army and then 40 years in the Navy as a Reserve medical officer. He has been deployed overseas on multiple occasions. In the last 4 years, he has been mainly working for Border Force off the north west coast of Australia conducting border protection as a medical officer.
Our school Captains did a fantastic job running the assembly.
