Sporting Achievements
A big congratulations to Jaxen, who has been selected to represent the South Coast Rugby League team. Jaxen will now compete at the Queensland Schools Championship. This is a fantastic achievement and a great opportunity— well done, Jaxen! Your dedication and hard work in training have truly paid off.
Congratulations also to Noah, who has earned a place on the Queensland School Swim Team. Noah will now go on to compete at the National School Swimming Titles. This has been one of Noah’s dreams since he was young, and reaching this milestone is a well-deserved reward for his commitment and perseverance. Well done, Noah!
Congratulations to Harlen, who has been selected for the QLD Storm Oztag team. Harlen will now compete at the National Titles in Coffs Harbour. This is a wonderful accomplishment, and a reflection of Harlen’s consistent effort and determination. Best of luck at Nationals, Harlen!
Cross Country
Unfortunately, the weather once again impacted our sporting events, and we had to postpone our school cross country. As a result, we were unable to run our usual full event to select the school team.
Instead, students completed a modified course adapted to the wet conditions. From this, our top six runners were selected to represent our school at the Oceanic Cross Country next week, where they’ll compete against students from other schools across the Gold Coast.
We’re working to reschedule our full school cross country event and will notify the community as soon as a new date is confirmed.
Game On Day
Last Friday, our Year 5 and 6 students travelled by bus to Piggabeen Sporting Complex for our very first Game On Day. The aim of the day was to help students build team spirit and understand how we expect them to compete at interschool sporting events - with fairness, respect, and pride.
Throughout the day, students focused on key areas such as game preparation, playing fierce but fair, managing nerves through breathwork, communicating effectively with teammates, and showing respect to coaches and officials. Most importantly, they explored what it means to represent our school in the best possible way.
The day began with a welcome from Mr Gaggin, followed by a special moment where Year 6 student Jaxen Leach interviewed NSW Origin star Nathan Peats. Nathan shared valuable insights into how he prepares for games, covering training, nutrition, mindset, and advice for aspiring young athletes.
Students then split into their chosen sports and took part in team training sessions with their coaches. After lunch, they rotated through a series of engaging workshops that reinforced the themes of the day.
To finish, everyone came together for fun house challenges and cheers, with Andrews house taking out the win in a very close competition. It was a fantastic day full of learning, energy, and school spirit - a great start to what we hope will become a proud tradition.
Queensland Schools Oztag
We’re excited to announce that our school will be sending four teams to the Queensland All Schools Oztag Titles on the Sunshine Coast from May 25 to 27. Students in Years 5and 6 have been trialling for these teams, and training will begin in the coming weeks. We’re looking forward to seeing our athletes represent the school!
Sporting Academies
Our Touch, Rugby League, and Surfing sporting academies for Years 4 to 6 will be starting soon. These academies provide students with extra coaching and training to help them further develop their sporting skills. We’re excited to offer these opportunities and continue fostering our students' athletic growth.
Running Club
Running Club is starting back up next week. If your child is interested, please contact the office for a consent form. We meet at the hall at 8:00am on Friday mornings and train until 8:30am.
