Principal's Report

DINA FIECK

It has been a vibrant and engaging week at The Alice Springs Steiner School, with several meaningful events and preparations underway that reflect the heart of our school community.

A sincere thank you to everyone who attended our Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Middle School Information Session this week. These events are important opportunities for shared understanding, collaboration, and reflection as we look toward the future of our school. Your participation and thoughtful engagement are always appreciated. For those who were unable to attend, our 2024 Annual Report is now available online via the school website.

We are also delighted to invite families to our Lower Primary Literacy Event on Tuesday, 13th May at 3:15 PM, in Classroom 1. This special afternoon is for children and families in Cassia, Class 1, 2, and 3, and will offer a glimpse into the rich and creative literacy experiences shaped by our Steiner curriculum and how you can support your child at home.

Last week, I attended the Steiner Education Australia Conference at Orana Steiner School in Canberra. The conference was a wonderful opportunity for inspiration, connection, and the sharing of ideas and practices with colleagues from across the country. These learnings continue to nurture our approach and enrich the experiences we offer students every day.

We are now just three weeks away from our Autumn Fair—a much-loved celebration of our school and community spirit. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who is already putting in the time and energy to bring this beautiful event together. Your contributions are deeply valued. As part of the preparations, we’ll be holding a Fair Working Bee this weekend Saturday 10th of May from 12:30-3:30pm, and we encourage as many families as possible to come along and lend a hand. It’s a great way to connect, contribute, and help set the stage for a wonderful day.

Across the school, children are immersed in deep and meaningful learning, guided by the Steiner Education Australia framework. In Early Childhood, the focus remains on imaginative play, rhythm, and building a strong foundation through connection to nature and the senses. Weekly Bushwalks have begun and the children are excited to explore the Country beyond our campus. In the Primary School, children are exploring rich main lesson themes that integrate literacy, numeracy, history, and the arts—engaging both head and heart. Interschool Sports has started, and our primary students (Class 4, 5 and 6) will be participating in sports sessions at Gillen Primary School, Araluen Primary, Larapinta Primary School, Living Waters, Ross Park as well as the Alice Springs Golf Course, Rhonda Diano Oval and the Alice Springs Hockey Fields.  Our Middle School students are taking on more complex and independent projects, developing critical thinking, self-awareness, and real-world skills through a holistic and integrated curriculum.

Thank you, as always, for being an integral part of our school community. We look forward to sharing more special moments with you in the weeks to come.
