Playground Support

Ms S. Nguy and Mrs L. Gonzales

We are excited to inform you that we have successfully trained our students and launched the Playground Support Program as of Week 4. This program is designed to help students resolve disputes in a constructive manner, guided by trained peers under the supervision of our staff. It aligns with the NSW Department of Education’s policies on Student Welfare, Anti-bullying, Anti-racism and Anti-discrimination.

Through peer mediation, we encourage students to take responsibility for their actions and collaborate to find resolutions to conflicts. Two trained student mediators will assist their peers in navigating a structured process, ensuring that the mediation remains neutral and confidential.

The objectives of our peer mediation program include:

  • Raising awareness of the effects of conflict on individuals and relationships
  • Improving communication skills among students and between students and teachers
  • Teaching vital skills such as active listening, critical thinking, and problem-solving
  • Empowering students to take greater ownership in resolving their own disputes.

The program is coordinated by Ms Nguy and Mrs Gonzales who are trained in peer mediation, providing continuous training, supervision and support for the student mediators. They will focus on addressing minor disputes, including:

  • Name-calling
  • Rumour spreading
  • Friendship issues
  • Property disputes
  • Teasing
  • Exclusion

We believe that this initiative will significantly contribute to a respectful and understanding atmosphere within our school community. Thank you for your ongoing support as we implement this valuable program for our students.
