New Staff

Welcome to John Italiano who has joined the Farm staff team to cover a number of staff on planned leave. John has worked previously at the College and possesses a wide range of farm skills so is a valuable addition to the Farm learning program.

A Young Gina Rinehart?

The Perth Garden Show took place over the last week and our young entrepreneur Lushell Clarke attended as an exhibiter to offer her handmade gardening gear to the public. Well done Lushell for your initiative and drive.

Jack’s Track

After a summer hiatus, Jack’s Motorbike Track is almost ready for use with our aim for it to be used on Open Day. Given it is registered with Motorcycling WA, there are a number of requirements for its use, which includes that students need to be registered with MWA themselves. My thanks to Year 12, Ethan Cook, who has been active in coordinating various staff and students to make it happen.

Social Media

This week we were alerted by a member of the public to a TikTok site which contained footage of students completing punishment tasks for being the lowest scorers in Fantasy Football. The tasks themselves were largely low level and silly but not malicious or discriminatory.

The issue was that students were wearing our uniform and the site had our school name included in it, and as such this reflects on the College. Our excellent reputation is something we value and cherish and it is everyone’s responsibility to protect it. When dealing with issues like this, we will consider a number of factors when determining a sanction. These include:

  • Coercion or bullying.

  • Illegal or immoral behaviour.

  • Images, names or details about other staff or students without their permission.

  • Malicious, harassment or discrimination.

  • Statements, images or references to the College.

I trust that parents will reinforce with their child the importance of taking care on social media.

Agricultural Advisory Committee

The Agricultural Advisory Committee (AAC) is a group of agricultural industry people who provide advice and support to our Farm operations. They are really important to help us make sure that our Farm runs as close to industry standard as possible so that we can be training our students in a realistic environment. The broad purpose of the AAC is:

  • Provide industry advice to the school/College on all matters affecting the operation of Farm enterprises conducted at the school/College.

  • Provide advice on the development of the school/College Farm plan and associated Farm budget.

  • Provide advice on the adoption of the latest technology into school/College Farm operations and the agricultural education program.

Members on the AAC come with experience and expertise relevant to our Farm sections and tend to be aligned to one of the sections. They communicate with the Training Officer and Farm Manager, meeting once a term to discuss the Farm operations and links to student outcomes.

We are seeking interested industry people who have expertise in any of the following areas; Merino sheep, beef cattle, dairy, pastures, horticulture (citrus, avocadoes, grape vines, vegetables, under cover cropping, hydroponics, amenities) and pigs.

Please make contact with me if you are interested in helping.
