Good Afternoon Parents Students, Staff and Friends of Derinya,

Wishing all of our Dads, Grandad’s and special people in our children’s lives the happiest of Father’s Days on Sunday. Hopefully you will be spoilt by your young people and have a chance to put your feet up. Many thanks to our wonderful volunteers who organised and supported our stall on Thursday. You are certainly all in for a treat! A reminder that if you are looking for a way to connect with other Derinya parents our upcoming Golf and Oaks Day events are a perfect opportunity. All welcome!

Book Week

Well done to all students and families on their fantastic efforts with Book Week. It was a wonderful celebration of many much-loved stories, authors and illustrators. Our visit from Children’s Book Council of the Year award winning author Andrea Rowe was very well received with our junior students enjoying highly valuable sessions sparking their creativity and imagination.

Right to Disconnect

You may have recently seen or heard in the media new laws around employees and the ‘right to disconnect’. This means that employees have the right to choose not to engage in communication with their employer or a third party (parent or student for example) outside of normal working hours. This new law is simply a reminder to share with you our commitment to timely communication. This includes responses to emails occurring within 2 business days of receipt and within work hours Monday to Friday. We appreciate receiving communication that is respectful and when complex issues arise making an appointment for face-to-face conversation is preferred. Our strong home school partnerships at Derinya have always served us well and our value of respect amongst our community is strongly upheld and appreciated.

Parent Opinion Survey

At Derinya we highly value the feedback of our families. The department administer three important surveys each year to include the Attitudes to School Survey for years 4-6 students, the Staff Opinion Survey and the Parent Opinion Survey. At the moment we have 30% of our families having engaged in the survey. It would be helpful to have a broader range of responses that will influence the areas of priority as we continue to progress through 2024 and start to plan for next year. If you have a moment please login and complete the survey.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Many thanks to those of you who were able to pop in for our parent teacher interviews last night. Our strong home school partnerships at Derinya ensures that we are all on the same page supporting students to achieve their personal best and reach their potential. Thank you also to our dedicated staff for their preparation and dedication to sharing accurate and up to date information about the progress of each individual.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Stuart Charles for standing is as Acting Principal whilst I was on leave doing a fantastic job. Many thanks to our School Improvement Team (SIT) for their support during this time also.

Wishing everyone a fantastic weekend ahead,

Nadine Pye on behalf of the Derinya Team.
