Guide them to be good role models
and loving to all their children.
Help them to be a father like You are.
Give them grace and patience to
handle situations in a loving way.
Amen!
Fathers everywhere,
We honour you and wish to say
May God's blessings be with you
In a special way today!
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
It has been an eventful week this week with different activities and opportunities to gather with others in the community, as you will see in photos and students’ commentary.
Book Week
The annual Book Week parade was another opportunity to gather as a community this week. The costumes this year, representing favourite book character or super hero, were amazing. The care, creativity, and attention to detail that went into each and every one of the students’ costume was prominent. Much appreciation and thanks to all families for the support in this.
Father’s Day breakfast
It was wonderful to see the hall filled with fathers and grandfathers having breakfast together yesterday. Opportunities like this, when families gather to share a meal together, are important and foster a sense of belonging, leaving lasting memories.
Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools School Improvement Surveys (MACSSIS)
Recently you received information regarding the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools School Improvement Survey (MACSSIS). From Monday, families will receive a personalised invitation, username and password/code to complete the survey. These surveys form an important part of the review and future planning of our school by outlining practices and strategies which are working well and areas which require improvement. We encourage all families to participate and thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Art Show
Our biennial Art Show is scheduled for Wednesday 11 September, opening at 3.00pm. All are welcome to the opening, and to stay and view the art on display until 6.00pm. There will be further opportunities at drop-off and pick-up time on Thursday, 12 September.
School Closure Day
Our next school closure day is planned for Monday 9 September. The focus of this day is Religious Education.
2025 Enrolments
Enrolments for 2025 are open. If you are aware of anyone who has a child who will be commencing in Prep in 2025, please encourage them to apply.
Warm regards,
Michelle Worcester
Principal

Athletics
Last Monday we were very excited to welcome an experienced Athletics coach to St Philip's for our PE lesson. Angela taught us the correct techniques for sprinting, relays and hurdles. We used a baton to run the relay. It was really good fun.
We have 3 more Athletics sessions with Angela, please remember to wear your Sports uniform and runners on Thursday 29th August, Monday 2nd September and Thursday 5th September.
Thank you.
-Teddy and Patrick.
Science Week
Last week for Science Week we joined an online learning session with Questacon. We were taught how to make paper planes, it was lots of fun. We all made a Dart Paper Plane and a Glider Paper Plane. Then we went outside for a Paper Plane Competition.
The Dart Paper Plane winners were: Weston, Matilda, Jeremiah, Nav and Kathy. The Glider Paper Plane winners were: Weston, Jayden, Jeffrey, John and Mrs Sherriff.
It was lots of fun for the whole school.

Vegetable Garden
Last week the Sustainability leaders had an important meeting with Mary from Bunnings. She shared some exciting news that Bunnings is very kindly donating an outdoor table and bench seat to our school for our Vegetable Garden. We are very grateful to Bunnings and to Mary for all of her help.
Could we please ask all families to help us collect clear, empty milk bottles with their lids to use in our Vegie patch. Please wash out the bottle and bring them to school and leave them in the STEM Room. We will use these bottles to set up a watering system in our garden.
Thank you for your help.
-Dominic, Christopher and Azelie.
Worm Farm
Mary and Allison from Bunnings came to our school to teach us about worms and to help us to create a Worm Farm! Did you know that worms like sleeping in pig poo but they do not like being picked up? We have put 1000 worms in our school's Worm Farm. Please remember to wear gloves before you do any gardening. Worms cannot eat peppers or sweets. Worms can eat egg shells, fine-cut apples or banana peels. The worms will be very good for our garden, but we need to leave them in the Worm Farm for a week. The worm poop is very good for our garden and it will help our vegetables to grow.

| On the 22nd of August, the grade 4/5/6s went to Hoop time in Dandenong. We were split into two groups. The Future Stars and The Rookies. I was in The Rookies team. Although the Rookies didn't win their games, the Future Stars succeeded. The best part of the day was that we could play some basketball games.
Norah |
Jesse | When we arrived at the Dandenong basketball stadium, I was really nervous about how I was going to play. However, the we (Future stars) played really well. |

Navkirat | On Thursday 22nd of August Hoop time was an amazing experience for me because I have never played basketball and also because I was on the Future Stars team. Navkirat |
Eliza | Hoop time was a really good experience not just for me but for everyone. Even though I already play basketball it was really fun. I was so excited to play with most of my friends in the Future Stars.
Eliza |
Daisy | I had a lot of fun playing with my friends and being able to help others learn how to play. Especially when I got to watch the Rookies play and cheer them on. I hope everyone had a good time and enjoyed something they hadn't played before. Safe to say that day will be a very memorable day that I will never forget. Daisy |
John | Hooptime was a memorable and enjoyable experience. I had lots of fun playing basketball with my friends and learning amazing new skills. This experience will be in my heart forever. John |

Belinda | Hoop time was an incredible experience for me since I was a part of the Rookies team. It was nice to have a go at all the games even though we didn’t win. It will be a lovely memory of my last hoop time game in my primary years. Belinda |
Jane | Hoop time is one of many amazing times that I will remember forever. As I sprinted down the court sweating a lot I shot the basketball into the goal and I gained our team two great points. Jane |
