Hi Year 5/6 Families!
We hope you've all had a fantastic couple of weeks! It's been a busy time here at Scoresby PS. Alongside our preparations for the upcoming production, we also participated in Bullying No Way! Week and celebrated Book Week.
During Week 5, students engaged in activities focused on challenging stereotypes, promoting empathy, embracing diversity, building positive relationships, and supporting one another. On Monday afternoon, the entire school came together for the Scoresby Superstars activity, where students worked in groups to create posters that reflect kindness, respect, and inclusion.
In Week 6, we dove into the excitement of Book Week! Students cracked a special Book Week code, enjoyed daily read-aloud sessions of CBCA shortlisted books via WebEx, and had a blast during our annual Book Week dress-up parade.
We've truly enjoyed these special weeks of celebration and support. Next week, we'll continue our production rehearsals and are eagerly looking forward to showcasing our performances to you all on Thursday night!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend and a great fortnight ahead!

Homework
Don’t forget homework! It is the expectation that students read 20 minutes every night, and complete their Writing and Maths homework given every fortnight. Students need to complete their homework in their homework books and fill in their reading diary.
Production Costumes
Please bring in your production costumes and give them to your classroom teacher as production is in Week 7! Details of the costumes can be found on Compass.
From Monday the 12th to Friday the 16th of August, Scoresby Primary School celebrated National Bullying No Way week with various activities. The whole school enjoyed events like Scoresby Superstars, where we discussed kindness, friendship, and strategies to prevent bullying. Later in the week, the 5/6 students participated in an activity focused on challenging stereotypes. On Friday, everyone wore a pop of purple, symbolising peace, strength, and a bold stand against bullying. It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to unite and explore ways to prevent bullying.

On Friday 9th August, we participated in a webinar about being safe online and on social media for National Bullying No Way Week. We learned new strategies for staying safe online that we hadn't considered before. First, we explored what it means to be safe online and how to handle potential problems. Some suggested methods included telling a trusted adult or contacting Kids Helpline. Next, we learned what to avoid online, such as not sharing our location, not revealing our identity (including our face or personal information), and reporting any suspicious behaviour. By the end of the webinar, we felt like we could now be safe online and at the end of the day we were feeling like we had faith in ourselves and what we learnt.

Book Week began on Monday the 19th of August, and we had a fun Scoresby Superstars activity. We went to our whole school mixed classes and read picture storybooks to the other people in the class. Throughout the week, several 5/6 students were lucky enough to read a book to the whole school on Webex. Tommy and Ryan read at lunch eating time on Monday. On Tuesday the 5/6 students had a Book Week activity called ‘Locked in the Library’ where we had to crack a code by solving clues with our Buzz Groups. At lunch eating time on Tuesday, we were selected to read Bear and Duck Are Friends to the school on Webex. Other students who read a story book during lunch eating time were Leila and Savannah, Noah G and Dante, and Celeste and Emily. Also, on Friday, we had our Book Week parade where we could dress up as our favourite book character. It looked awesome with everybody dressed up. We all had heaps of fun. Book Week was fabulous!
