Father's Day Celebrations

This week, our thanks go out to all the wonderful volunteers who organised special events for the dads, grandads, and special male figures in our children’s lives.

As children bring home their special gifts and find creative hiding places, eagerly telling you not to peek, it's worth noting that these gifts were the result of thoughtful planning — not just by the children, but also by our dedicated PFA volunteers.

Our PFA team carefully selected gifts by searching through catalogues and websites, planning and budgeting, unpacking boxes, and setting up the Father’s Day stalls. On Thursday, our young shoppers were filled with excitement as they chose the perfect gifts for their special person. The joy on their faces is the reason our volunteers come back year after year — it truly is priceless.

After the pop-up shop, we shifted gears to prepare for our Father’s Day breakfast. Not even an egg shortage could stop our plans! With rolls, bacon, and eggs at the ready, our amazing team — Belinda, Francesca, Gabby, and Bernie — arrived at 6:30 am to fire up the BBQs. 220 rolls later, we couldn’t have been more grateful for the incredible helpers who made the morning run so smoothly. A huge thank you to Kara, Stephanie, Anastasia, Nat, Stella, Nicole, Tate, Wendy, Leanne, and Kate.

We know how much the children love having their families visit the school, even if they sometimes run off with their friends (especially so early in the morning!). Thank you to all the families who made the extra effort to join us for breakfast. We were blessed with a beautiful sunrise and were glad the wind and rain held off, allowing everyone to enjoy the morning together.

Book Week

During Book Week, the children of Holy Cross gathered in their favourite book-inspired costumes, filling the school with characters from a wide variety of literature. The highlight of the day was an enthusiastic reenactment of Possum Magic, where our Literacy Leader, Zoe, brought the beloved story to life. As Zoe read aloud, the children watched in delight as a tray of lamingtons, a giant jar of Vegemite, and a pavlova all played their parts in the magical story. The children burst into laughter when poor little Hush, played by Aoife, ended up with a face full of squashed pavlova. We hope everyone enjoyed the fun-filled celebration.

Junior Chef

Gigi: On the 30th of July, Henry, Max, Oliver, and I represented our school at Sacred Heart College in Kyneton for the first round of the Junior Chef competition. Six primary schools competed, and our challenge was to make pancakes with a warm berry sauce. We worked hard, especially when it came to flipping the pancakes — and we nailed it! It was a great start to the competition, and every school was excited to move on to the next round.

Max: On the 20th of August, we advanced to the second round, which focused on making pasta. Our task was to prepare fettuccine with a Napolitana sauce. Gigi and Oliver took charge of making the fresh pasta, while Henry and I focused on creating a delicious sauce. Once everything was ready, we carefully plated our dish, adding cheese and fresh basil to make it look and taste even better. It was a fantastic experience working together and learning new skills.

Oliver: Two judges, who were chefs from restaurants in Kyneton, observed us closely as we cooked and then tasted our pasta. After a tense moment, they announced the winning team. Although we didn’t win — Our Lady of the Rosary in Kyneton took first place — we were thrilled to receive a prize from the judges for our efforts.

We all had an amazing time throughout the competition and learned so much. A huge thank you to Sacred Heart College for hosting and to Kellie for coaching us. We can't wait for another opportunity to cook and compete!

Maths Incursions

Last week, the children of Holy Cross had an exciting time during their Maths Incursions as part of Literacy and Numeracy Week. They tackled a series of challenging puzzles and problems, working together creatively to design strategies and solutions. Their teamwork led to many successful outcomes, even leaving some of the teachers puzzled! Well done to everyone involved. We hope you all enjoyed the celebrations!
