Library News
This past week has been all about one thing—Book Week! The highlight? Our fabulous costume dress-up parade. The day was filled with colour and fun for students and staff alike. We want to thank families for their outstanding creativity and for helping their children bring their favourite book characters to life. Your support made the day truly special.
To the families who could join us, we loved having you there to share in the excitement. And a special shoutout to our secret judges—they’ve officially quit! The competition was just too tough, with so many incredible costumes. But don't worry; everyone has two years to plan for the next parade!
Book Week Wrap-Up
Book Week was packed with activities that had something for every K-10 student. The week started with buddy reading and our much-anticipated Costume Parade, setting the tone for a fun-filled celebration.
As the week progressed, our youngest readers (K-2) enjoyed a 'Reading is Magic' colouring and craft session while our primary and secondary students got competitive with book trivia Kahoots. To top it all off, we ended the week on a high by designing magical book covers using Canva's AI-powered 'Magic Media' feature.
Below are just a sample of the book covers created by Year 3-6. It's hard to believe these were all created by student writing prompts.
It was a busy week, but it was also a whole lot of fun!
But that’s not all… "Book an Adventure"
Just when you thought Book Week was done and dusted, the Children’s Book Council of Australia announced the 2025 theme today: ‘Book an Adventure’. While I’m excited about the possibilities, my brain is still recovering from last week. I’m hoping I’ll be more motivated soon.
You can view the announcement and meet the artist for next year here. Jess McGeachin has illustrated some beautiful books, and I look forward to seeing his artwork. I’ve included the covers of some of his books below.
SORA Book of the Week
In recognition of International Dog Day yesterday, SORA has gathered some great dog stories to enjoy.
The Premier’s Reading Challenge is Now Closed
Congratulations to the 98 students who completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge on Friday. What a great effort! If you haven’t returned your reading log, please do so ASAP so I can validate it this week.
Please see me for one if you need to add your star to our PRC Reading Stars display.
Last, But Not Least
Year 1 enjoyed adding to the Concrete Garden at the library.
In the story, The Concrete Garden, a photo of the children's work travelled worldwide. Year 2 created a 'photo' of their garden, too.
Thanks, everyone, for a big week in the library. Happy reading,
Mrs Toni Fraser
