INCLUSIVE EDUCATION
Inclusive Education - ‘The Assembly’
After a term of looking at the genre of documentary and moving on to thinking about how journalists think and work, Inclusive Education students decided to conduct their own episode of ‘The Assembly’ and invite a couple of very special guests.
For those who are yet to see this wonderful show, ‘The Assembly’ on the ABC is about a group of young journalism students completing an Introduction to Journalism course with Macquarie University. All students in the course have autism, and viewers watch as the students prepare questions and then interview a different Australian celebrity each week, including Adam Goodes and Hamish Blake.
Wyndham Inclusive Education students considered the types of questions asked on the show, and how the structure of the interviews led to some surprising and interesting responses. They invited our Principal, Classa Martinuzzi, and the Year 12 Deputy Principal, Kellie Boyd, to join them for a lesson to be interviewed about anything and everything. Bravely, our leaders agreed!
With great thoughtfulness and care, Inclusive Education students prepared a range of questions. Krish read the Acknowledgement of Country and Inclusion Statement, welcoming Classa and Kellie to our group, and the students were off.
Some examples of the challenging questions presented included those from:
- Brodie, who asked Kellie to name the best thing about herself and challenged Classa to name her best friend amongst the Wyndham College staff.
- Florence, who asked both Kellie and Classa about their incredible shoe collections. We won’t mention how many pairs they each have … She also asked them about what goes through their minds when working with young people, and their answers revealed a lot about the complexity of the top jobs.
- Steph, who wanted to know how Kellie spent time with cousins when she was younger, and also asked both Kellie and Classa which emotion they would be if they were represented on Inside Out.
- Rohan, who was delighted find out that both he and Classa have the same favourite train route.
- All students asked questions about friendship, favourite places to travel, sports that our guests have played and the trickiest things about their jobs.
Students then shared morning tea with Kellie and Classa before thanking and farewelling them.
It was a great experience for everyone, and one that the class will look forward to repeating soon.

Inclusive Education - Timber
Throughout Term 3, the Wyndham Yr 11/12 Inclusive Education Timber class were very busy making their serving trays. As you can see, much effort was put into the laser cut designs which highlight the individual personality in each project. After the trays were glued, there was lots sanding involved to achieve a nice silky smooth finish. The students then applied several coats of Danish oil to achieve the finished product. Here is a photo displaying the fruits of their labour.
